creepy spyderco poster on ebay

Most Americans can't tell the difference between a sikh and a muslim; hell, most Americans've never _heard_ of a sikh. ;)

It's fun to call racial-profiling proponents on this one.

"We know the guys we're lookin' fer is Islamic, so we should check out Islamics at the airport!"

"Can you tell the difference between a sikh and a muslim?"

"A whut?"

:D

That's probably true. Unless they live in a city with a Sikh population. Or eat a lot of Indian food. Many of the Indian restaurants I have been to have had Sikh cooks. Mainly I think because most of the Indian restaurants in this country serve a northern Indian style cuisine. Mmmm...pakoras.

As a matter of fact, JSK is an American. I think he converted when he was in his twenties.

His knives are TOTALLY kick-butt.
His designs are truely creative. I have nothing but respect for the man.

I've seen some of the jewelry and gem work he has done and it was just plain stunning.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE NEVER HANDLED ONE OF THESE: The JOT Model, IMO, IS ONE OF THE BEST DESIGNED LINERLOCKS OF ALL TIME. If you look carefully, you will see that it disengages, BELOW the finger notch, and it stays completely out of the way of your fingers. Over time, I have come to appreciate what a great design this really is.

I know nothing about him, but it sure does remind me of the 9/11. I don't know anything about Sikh. His knife is really nice. I'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just an odd picture of an arab looking man flying around New York city on a pocket knife.
That statement is offensive to me because you've self-admitted your ignornance of the religion and still choose to comment even though you know nothing at all. Do the world, and yourself a favor, Spend 2 minutes, go to google, or About.com and read a little. You'll be much better off for it.

Sikhs do several things religiously, to include the turban wearing and always carrying a knife, in addition to wearing shorts. (Has to do with the founders of the sect, and what was then military wear.)

An Air Canada flight to India was blown out of the sky several years ago by a group of Sikhs who brought their own brand of extremism with them to Canada. Perhaps the Indo-Canadian families who lost sons, wives, daughters and husbands would have an interesting point of view about the merits of the poster. I guess the Sikhs that planted the bomb forgot about the symbolism of their ceremonial dagger.

Also with the Twin towers in the back-ground of the poster with a weapon ridden by a man who would be mixed up for an Arab by a great number of North Americans this poster is of course absolutely offensive and any one with half a brain would pull it.

I give the poster 5 out of 5 on the creepiness scale.

The poster was made years ago and is not in production, it already has been pulled.

It's a poster from 1997, 4 years before 9/11. Most Americans never even heard of Afghanistan, extremistic islam, etc. back then.
Ever heard of coincidence ?

In today's context it is CREEPY
Ever heard of the word Obtuse?

So it seems that a lot of people equate "non-Christian" as creepy. The terrorists have succeeded in spreading hate and mistrust.

I wonder how many of you see white men driving rental panel vans as creepy? Oklahoma City? Anybody? Anybody?

If it was the Pope riding the knife through the sky by the Twin Towers it would simply be a more obscure form of creepy. Christian/Non-Christian has nothing to do with it.

Alright mr. go read something. If you would have scrolled down and read the entire thread without flaming me, you would have noticed that I READ HIS BIO. I'm not obligated to learn about every religion in the world to stop myself from offending people. I even complimented his knives. From just reading the poster (which is all I did) I thought it was an arab man riding the a knife around new york city, you cannot tell he is a sikh from the picture, unless you are knowledgeable of all religions, which you "must" be. He even comments on being mistaken for an arab on his web site.

Honestly, I don't give a crap if your a muslim or a sikh. As long as you are friendly and treat other people with respect, I'll do the same. I'm not associated with any religion myself, I don't go to church or anything. I believe in a greater being and that's about as far as it goes with me.

I'm going to ignore you for the rest of my time posting here in bladeforums, because starting flame wars is not what this site is meant for.

I think it's sad that some people might think of 9/11 any time they see a man in a turbin near NY. I seriously did not think of that. Not everyone's brain works that way. Anyone who does get that impression should expose themselves to more turbin-wearing cultures so they don't always think sheets=terrorist. I can understand that happening, but people should recognize that the flaw is in their mind, not some poster.

The first time I saw this poster I thought it might be fake because it was just so silly looking to see this guy riding a flying knife. I have seen NYC/WTC and people in turbins/robes many times before 9/11/01. I though it was weird he was dressed like that because I was not aware of who he was or that Spyderco had done any work with him, but considering how many people in the world dress like he does he is really normal looking (no, I won't list names).

When someone labeled it "creepy" on this forum, I thought they might be concerned about exactly what that guy was doing to the knife (maybe the warranty meant a different kind of abuse?), but that's MY sick flawed mind showing itself, so I wasn't initially going to say anything. :)

I knew it was made well before 9/11 when I posted it. I mainly found it creepy because it seemed to forshadow it. I've been "educated" that the guy is a sikh and not an arab and that he makes incredible knives. I relate a lot of things to 9/11. I have this song with the lyrics "the sky scrapers look like grave stones" and it reminds me of 9/11. If this offends people, they're offended very easily.

You might as well just have said: "Look at Jot Singh Kalsa, he looks just like a terrorist."
I don't think you understand what an absurd and just flat out DUMB statement that is, since you don't know nor have ever met Mr. Khalsa. He's a very stand up guy, and I have only ever read good things about him. (I admit I never met him) Sal doesn't support terrorists, but he does, or at least did support Mr. Khalsa, and since this IS the Spyderco forums, you should respect that.

I have met Jot Singh Kalsa a couple times and he is one of the best people you could ever want to talk too but the adverage person looking at this poster would think it was something to do with the 911 attack and I can see how anyone that did not know what it really is would think it is creepy.

I like the poster and didn't think that at all either. My first thought was Wizard of Oz for some reason.
