I'm not saying their steel is horrible. I think the fanboys can't understand that CRK are my favorite knives and I'm not knocking CRK. I think the S30V is good but good is the enemy of great IMO.

No use getting upset. Everyone uses their knives differently, and therfore has different needs, as far as steel type and hardness.

I think that CRK has hit the sweet spot in s30v...I am an electrician, I use my small sebenza ug s30v everday for reaming pvc conduit, cutting open boxes, stripping thhn cu and alum wires, stripping xhw 500mcm-1/0 wires taking a break and cutting open a chip bag and peeling an apple, and then going right back to work, all day everyday, and the edge lasts a few weeks. I just checked my edge, sharpened it last week on my modified lansky @ 25* and it's still shaving sharp.

I find that it's a great balance between hardness and edge retention. For my use, which I think is mild-hard use.

Other steels by benchmade such as 154cm chipped doing these same tasks...Also spydercos vg-10 chipped....

I havn't had my sebenza roll or chip it's edge yet. And i trust it to preform as it has so far.

P.S. Today, i used it while waiting for the boss to get back with parts, to cut off a branch of a tree, and whittle it to a VERY sharp point, still shaving sharp, took a few passes over my leg and it's bald again...

P.S.S When I say "the edge last a few weeks" I mean that it is shaving sharp for a few weeks, after that it is still sharp, but won't easily shave hair, which it then gets a few passes on the modded lansky, to bring it back to shaving sharp.

If people are that bothered about the HT on their blade, just ask a maker to make a replacement in whatever steel they like and HT it to whatever hardness they prefer, simple.
