CRKT- No Bother small fixed blade

I was hoping to see a horizontal sheath with a footprint on the back of it. ;)

Nice knife though. I really like small fixed blades and may have to look for this one. Thank you for sharing.

well, you'll be waiting a while for a couple reasons, mainly as I don't do fixed blade sheaths and I'm still mending from that broken ankle but I hope to be getting more active in my leather work soon! but not for this knife ;) It rides fine in it's sheath, if I ever break it, then I'll figure out on what to do at that time.

and using that knife today, very handy glad you appreciated the review

Great little mods on this one, Gary. Thanks for sharing! I'm glad to hear you like it. I'm going to share your review on the CRKT Facebook page in the next couple weeks-- it's good stuff.

Glad you enjoyed it and by all means utilize what ever you need.

Gary, I've got plenty of knives in my carry roster as is, but your pictures, the video explaining the backstory, all combined to convince me to place an order this weekend when I get a chance for one. A small blade like that would do well as an office environment knife because it's so small, few eyebrows would be raised at its presentation, I'm thinking.

Thank you for the fantastic, frank review, and really clear detailed pictures.

Most welcome sir, and I agree, it's pretty office friendly due to it's size and when you combine it with the backstory, even non-knife people enjoy hearing it.

As to the paracord belt loop thingy, it's holding quite well, the weld I made is as solid as the day I did it. One thing else you can do, depending on if your a thin or not so thin fellow or girl. You can put it so the belt loops face to the outside, which will use the belt to hold it fast against your side, not much moving around, that's if you are more on the thin/slim profile kind of person, otherwise it would be quite tight and cause a crease in your otherwise round waist ;)

I was playing with some orange paracord to wrap around the handle but haven't come up with a pattern that suits it, so it's just as she's shown here.

Added a cord wrap to just bring the thickness of the handle out a little more, but didn’t want a big knot on there, so I took and ‘welded’ the ends together, let me warn ya, it is HOT when you do this so please take care! Also you need to estimate pretty good on length when you go to cut it, I could have made it just a tad shorter but now…it is what it is and still wrapped pretty tight.

And a shot of the ‘weld’ it’s done pretty strong and the resulting meld is smooth to the touch

Every time I see this knife I start to compile a list of reasons why I have to have one .
I haven't carried a fixed blade knife in years , maybe I'm due for a change .
Gary the way you have the para cord belt loops set up must make the knife ride very high , does the handle dig into your ribs ?
There is no way I could own that knife and not make a leather sheath for it . I'd make a cross draw horizontal sheath that covered at least half of the handle for lots of retention . Then I'd just sit out on my porch for the rest of my life with a satisfied look on my face knowing my life was complete :)
You should have a go at making a sheath for it , there is some excellent tutorials in the leather and sheath making forum on how to make your own sheath .
You should give it a try .
You may find your really good at it :)

Ken

Good idea Ken I'll check out that section of the forum! :)

And actually it is a little high but works, mainly though I just slip it into my pocket anyways as it doesn't attract much attention that way.

With out a guard I'm not keen on making leather sheaths for fixed blades like that, but I may make an exception in this case and yes, I still dig this small knife, I'm liking it a lot it's just cool ;)

G2

Well I've done it .
I just ordered one , and now the wait begins .
This is actually going to cost me quite large sum of cash .
Flowers aren't cheap and they are going to be required to soften up my wife before I tell her I've just bought another knife that I just can't live without .

Ken

Hah, well sir, I hope you like it when it arrives, you can always tell your wife that I was a bad influence and see if that helps smooth things over with her, fingers crossed for you!

Flowers? do you drive home by any cemeteries? ;) just a thought...

edited to add, those shots with the paracord wrap around the handle, I used my ipod touch to take the photos while at work, used a Joby JM3-01WW GripTight GorillaPod Stand to keep the ipod touch still and used a camera timer app so once I pressed to take the photo it waited 5 seconds before it snapped the shot, worked pretty well I thought.

Gary ,

You my friend , are an " Idea's " man . :)

I have been thinking about this knife since you first started this thread . A fixed blade will make a real change for me and I can already see where it will be beneficial at times at work .
The small size is what really sold it to me .
I really want to get this thing sharp when I get it .
How have you sharpened it , and now that you have used it for awhile how does the edge hold up .

Ken

It arrived pretty sharp, I've only had to touch it up and strop it since getting it. I've used it sparingly on some packages and paracord, a little whittling and I like it for it's size. The edge hasn't been taken to task to see what will harm it yet really so it's not a good measure, but since it's not a 'super' steel I figure it will need some touch ups here and there during it's use, but it seems pretty tough. Of course it excelled at cutting out labels with it's very low point ;) one word of caution is that tip's spine, she is sharp so unless you are not careful I can see getting nick'd from that, haven't needed to round that off as it's just too cool, but I do keep a close eye when using the knife!

As I say it's small enough that it rides inside the pocket pretty well, maybe a sheath down the road when I get back into that but for now, it's handy as she sits.

Gary, two things.

1. I had one more question. Is that back edge sharpened also? In your close up picture of the tip, are both the primary cutting edge, and that top swedge also sharp?

2. "Do you pass by any cemeteries?" brought a great laugh! LOL That's hilarious!

Yes that edge coming up from the tip is sharp, you CAN get cut from that, but as long as you're careful it's ok. BUT the one time I get bit, I'll be dullin' it down, but right now, it's cool.

and glad to bring a smile to your face ;)

Well I survived the big announcement to my beloved wife , and Gary I don't think you should show your face around our place for awhile :)
Seriously , she is a great wife and even though she rolls her eyes and shakes her head , she never outwardly complains about my hobby spending , and I have a few different interests .
That second edge is what really caught my attention and interest when you first posted those pictures .
Is that edge ground to the same angle as the main blade or is it different ?
I'm really excited about this knife and can't wait to get my hands on it , but it may be awhile , such are the difficulties of living at the bottom of the world .
I've already started planning a leather sheath for it , but actually holding the knife in your hands and viewing it on a computer are two different things and final design will be determined after having it a few days .
Maybe this is the start of a fixed blade episode in my life :)
Even if I don't get on with it as a EDC work knife I'm sure it will be very handy to have in the truck as a backup .
More pictures will help keep the juices flowing while I wait for the postman , so if you have some post them up

Ken

Glad I didn't swing by tonight then ;) tell her I'm so very very sorry...well try to say it with a straight face if you can.

Here are some I just took, still not easy setting things up with the ankle so pardon the images but the one I think will give you an idea of the bevel's of the main vs the tip's upper edge.

and the closeup straight on to the point of the knife, left side you can see the edge bevel and the right the steeper bevel from the tip to the spine, you'd not want to rub your finger down on that! Of course it could be sharpened further but for me, it's good enough the way she is on that back side!

Hope this helps ease the wait!

Don't let it build up too much because it's still just a knife and not Excalibur ;)
