CRKTs 2017 Lineup

Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhaahahahahahahaaaa !

Nothing here which peaks my interest. I won't knock their offerings wholesale without at least seeing some...maybe at wally-world. Even then, ide be looking at the Kershaw offerings. At this price point, their will be plenty of takers but not many from here. I will keep my Ripple, and I still want a Ti Eros, and maybe one of those Razzles.

The 3 Vox designs are very attractive, until I read the specs.

They are all 8cr13mov.
All have thick blade stock.
All are too heavy for their size.

Seriously, these specs for the Batum are ridiculous:

Blade Length: 3.158"
Closed Length: 4.772"
Overall Length: 7.938"
Blade Material: 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel
Blade Thickness: 0.187"
Blade Hardness: 58-60HRC
Blade Style: Drop Point
Blade Finish: Satin
Handle Material: Black G10 and Stonewashed Stainless Steel
Locking Mechanism: Frame Lock
Pocket Clip: Stainless Steel (Tip-Up/Down, Right Carry)
Weight: 6.9 oz.
Designer: Jesper Voxnaes

I know Jesper Voxnaes tends toward beefier folders, but this is practically Direware territory.

I am buying the same number of CRKT products this year as I have purchased in the last five: zero.

Hell, I'm not ruined by better steels yet. I'll probably pick up a couple.

I like the Noma, as a KA-BAR Dozier sized beater.

So sad again.
Nothing worth the $ this year, everything's overpriced even though many designs look nice and I dig the looks of much of that stuff.
CRKT please stop doing this to your old fans :grumpy:

I like the looks of the Ikoma Carnufex flipper, but would like to see better blade steel, like most have stated previously.

It sucks to see such nice Vox designs ruined by their materials. I want those designs, but there's no way I'm paying those prices for such awful and heavy materials.

I wish CRKT (and this extends to all budget blades really) would start using 12C27 across their line instead of 8Cr13MoV. 12C27 is inexpensive, and fantastic. They've used it already on the grooved Swindle, and Boker Plus has used it on their Tech Tool line, so clearly it's feasible on a large production scale, even though the steel needs to be imported to China.

Been nearly a decade for me I think. Bought one of their m16 folders and I said never again, however, just ordered one of their Harsey Ruger knives just because I'm a Harsey fan boy.

Re the question at hand nothing in their 2017 line up looks interesting to me.
I am buying the same number of CRKT products this year as I have purchased in the last five: zero.

I bought a Pilar out of curiosity, looked like a cool design. It's a pretty solid little folder and was just $25. I like the way it fits in the hand, blade was plenty sharp out of the box, and the open/close action is very smooth. Framelock is a plus, but this thing is a brick. Feels pretty heavy for it's size, 4.2 oz. for a 2.4 inch blade. I do like the design and ergonomics of it though, I know CRKT goes after the budget/value market with their price points and material choices (stainless steel and 8cr13mov blade) but I wish they would up their game a bit. They use a good steel on this (maybe s30v) as well as a titanium frame instead of stainless and it would be a decent EDC choice imo. Also needs a little thumb jimping on the top.
