Crossing the Rubicon

Not liking the sharp points on the backspacer. It scratches my hand when I retrieve keys from my pocket.

If someone offers a smoother backspacer, in something other than orange, I will replace this part immediately.

I can help you out with that

I own many custom knives, from Shirogorov to Begg to CRK... and the Rubicon holds up just fine in comparison... the fit and finish and the speed of the flipping action just say Quality all over...

this is a wonderful collaboration, and I am getting more than one!

Anyone know who has them in stock? i think Im sold ;) But late to the party as far as locating one.

The Rubicon is actually better than I expected. The initial lock-stick was a pain to deal with especially since the frame does not have a cut-out for easy lock disengagement.
Now that the lock face is broken in, with the help of graphite, it's a wonderful knife and possibly the best Spyderco to date. I'd give it a solid 9/10, if they had added a recess or cut out in the frame for easier disengagement, I would be a 10/10.

To echo Austin's sentiment, I just got my Rubicon today and it was pretty sticky. I had to take it apart and Sharpie the lock face and the lock face on the blade. Now it just has that typical initial stick you get sometimes with liner locks but is otherwise fine. The lock is carbidized and almost looks like it has some sort of insert. The lack of a relief for the lock is kind of annoying but it's not the worst lock I've used for being hard on my thumb. Only other real complaint is the style of the pocket clip, but I'm guessing that will be fixed by the aftermarket soon.

All that said, the fit and finish on this thing is nothing short of incredible.

Excellent review, Austin! The initial lock stick issue has me just a bit concerned as I would rather not have to deal with that in a knife at that price point. Having said that, I currently have another Chrome tab open for a well known knife site and my wallet is out. :D

Great video! The chatter died down quick with this one. How's everyone's Rubicon holding up? I've got one in the mail so I'm very excited! Anyone having any issues with theirs?

No issues once the lockbar gets smoother. It's a stunning piece and the flipper operates very well. Very functional grind on the blade. The problem is that for a little flipper it is quite thick and bulbous like a tuna fish.
