Well...

tl;dw
RAO died, 4-Max is the winner.

Well, it is CS testing its knives vs competitors' knives. That's enough bias to discredit the videos from the outset, regardless of their outcome.

That said, it will be interesting to see if people get as bothered by the CS vs "comical" ER as they did when it was CS vs. respected CRK.

Why even do any of the tests with out the pin? I've watched a lot of their test videos, but this is the first one I remember that they've broken up into multiple parts. The RAO comes with the pin, so why test it with the pin out and break the testing up? If the RAO won with the pin in, just show it, if not, then show that as well.

Part 3 is going to be with the pin in.

Yeah, I get that. Why even test it with out the pin, the pin is what supposedly gives it its strength.

Well, it does have a lock...good to know how strong the lock is, right? :)

Plus, showmanship; you always build to the grand finale.

When a company makes some tests, and their product is part of it, the whole thing just lost its objectivity, we need to see non knife company related tests

I remember when I had my BMW M3 all of Audis RS 5 tests were on snow, the 0-60 were also rolling starts, DSG vs Manual, its the same thing, its bad competition

Even if the Cold Steel was weaker, I'd still choose it instead of that Extrema Ratio abomination.

In topic CS vs. CRK many people wanted such test comparison with ER RAO.

Who wanted to see CS vs ER? CS fans? ER fans? CRK fans?

The testing results are irrelevant...they are biased. Throw them out the window. Who cares.

What, to me, is interesting is peoples' reactions. When CS "beat" CRK, the CS fans were dancing around singing "We win!", and the CRK fans were stamping their feet and screaming about controlled experiments, design intent, and the scientific method etc.

Many members, including ones not "fanboys/haters" of either brand, were in a bother over the whole thing. Quite an ado.

So I am curious to see if the CS fans do their dance again and claim victory for them and their knives, and if the ER fans get upset, and if the "general public" cares as much this time around.

In the end its really about "perception of CRK" vs "perception of ER." To me. Its the only variable.

Not about the "results" of one of CS's silly videos. Might as well be stabbing briskets for Scagel's sakes.

A whole bunch of people.
CRK fans.
Spyderco fans.
People who are fans of hating Cold Steel.
And some Cold Steel fans who bet the 4-Max would win.

There were calls for it within threads, and an entire thread started specifically asking for it:

As for a lack of hulabaloo, it isn't a new thing anymore.
These tests are now an expected thing; back then it was a new, crass way of self-marketing.
Now I think we all just say "Oh look, another one of those."

It's mainly curiosity. Of course the more one is fan of one side or the other the more curious one would be on average or engage in lengthy discussions afterwards.
Even if I think the tests have room for error, dont really test real world behaviour and I'm not a cold steel fan or die hard spyderco fan boy and have yet to see an CRK knife in real life I'll still watch it.
It's cool and no matter how flawed, it's the only comparative data point one has if one doesn't count non destructive user reviews.

It wasn't that long ago, was it? I still think a hullabaloo, or lack thereof, by any of the 4 groups (CS, ER, CRK, "independents") in this case might say something interesting.

Certainly something more interesting than the "tests" themselves.

To be honest, for now I'm more interested in practical comparison between wave feature from Emerson and wave disc from Demko. In my Cs Talwar after ~2 years of opening knife with wave is no blade play. I read that in some Emerson folders comes to vertical blade play after some more intense use of that feature. And for the record - I carry Emerson too, waveless 7.

Not sure what you mean.

Chris Reeve's Sebenza has always had a reputation of being overpriced mediocrity and Extrema Ratio has always been respected.

I know it's not aparent to us knife enthusiasts but generally speaking that's how it works.

People knew what was coming with the Sebenza test and fully expected the results, the big surprise was the RAO, which had a reputation for being the strongest folder.

Feels pretty long ago to me. ;)
I just can't get emotionally worked up about it again, even if they were to attach my favourite knife to their robot whacking arm of death.

The first time was all like "Hey, what the hell are you guys doing? That isn't cool!"
Now it's more like "Oh, another one of those. Might as well watch it...nothing's on TV right now."

Maybe CS will come up with some kind of pants-wearing "deployment" robot.

That was a magnificent post. Solid gold, baby...solid gold! Nailed it.
