Seriously now : I'm glad to see Cold Steel showing some commitment to producing the XL sized folders .

The Tri-ad lock scales up nicely and will support the much increased stresses involved .

Cold Steel also can make huge functional folders available at affordable prices .

Nobody else seems to do that much .
 
You will have to be stupid to pay $300+ for such a meh folder unless your name here is DocJD.

Large doesn't have to mean heavy. My Biryukov #7 has a 4.2" long blade yet weighs only 4.6oz. Despite its size, it carries well. It does give me delusions of grandeur though. I feel like I can take on a band of cyborg gorillas with it in hand. I think swinging a 13oz knives would get tiresome quickly, so the 5-max won't be my dedicated cyborg gorilla fighter.

If someone here claims to have paid over $300 for any knife , with my user name , you can sure I've been hacked ! :mad:

It mayn't be an infraction but it is certainly rude and fractious , to imply another member is stupid .

Depends on the steel, I wanna say a standard S125V model is $400 ish. My S390 retails for $536 I believe, though I paid less than $500.

I don't know why anyone would want to chop with a folder. Maybe it's me.
 
No chance I’m hell I’d ever buy that knife… too boring for the price… the new cold steel Mayhem is another story… this one looks every bit as crazy as the price tag for Aus10/FRN ($349 MSRP, don’t know street price tho)..
6” blade one this one… it reminds me of the EVO 3.0, but an XL version

Yeah, buying Cold Steels when they're fresh on the shelves is a mug's game. They start out out 15% off the full price, and then after about a year, they're available at 40% off, with deeper discounts available at times.

Somehow I missed this. Lol, I heard they weren't funky enough! Maybe all they needed was a 13oz folder in their pockets to be successful...
 
Instead of upping their steel game, fixing sheath issues (sheaths full of glass dulling blades), using better handle materials, introducing new designs that people would actually use and so on... we got yet another oversized folder in same steel and at double price. Good going.

2x price increase for what? 1inch of lenght?

This is also something nobody asked for.

I can imagine 100 better things they could have done:
Use real kydex for sheaths.
Make more knives with true full tang.
Make folder or fixed blade out of MagnaCut.
Use A2 or reintroduce O1 for some fixed blades.
Switch 4116 and 4034 for AUS8 and switch AUS8 for AUS10 and so on...
Reintroduce Recon1 XL.
and so on...

They could have done so much, but they enlarged the model nobody asked bigger size for and then charged double.
