CS 5-Max, anyone got one yet?

2x price increase for what? 1inch of lenght?

This is also something nobody asked for.

I can imagine 100 better things they could have done:
Use real kydex for sheaths.
Make more knives with true full tang.
Make folder or fixed blade out of MagnaCut.
Use A2 or reintroduce O1 for some fixed blades.
Switch 4116 and 4034 for AUS8 and switch AUS8 for AUS10 and so on...
Reintroduce Recon1 XL.
and so on...

They could have done so much, but they enlarged the model nobody asked bigger size for and then charged double.
I charge considerably more for an extra inch 😂

I don't make or sell knives, I assume you tool up for a new product that involves new costs. That cost can get recovered in the early pricing. I expect that for every niche product I buy. In fact I give money to companies making new products to help them with those costs so I the consumer gets the toys I want.

Secondly it's Cold Steel not Custom Steel FFS, nobody asks for anything.

Pony up and go to a custom maker if you want someone to produce what YOU ask for.

The brand is synonymous with XL folders nobody asked for or thought they wanted - that is the brand, and it is crazy successful.

Another CS hater exposed. Nothing new here.

You've just dug up and regurgitated nearly every negative and irrelevant passed complaint about CS .

What do you have to offer about this knife in particular ?

I almost believe you are just trolling here and I seem to recall you doing this before .

I hate to report , but might make exception for repeat offenses .

Also , plenty of fans have called for this very knife , right on this very sub forum .

This is a redesign , they didn't just "add an inch " .

The price will come down , especially if ,as you imply , nobody wants one .

I did not "dig up" anything. I just don't buy CS unless I have custom sheath or plan to get one. Their sheaths have been garbage for a long time and they are well aware of it, yet they still didn't do a thing to fix it. But they do charge 140€ for new 4116 folders with plastic handle, it's shameful.

About this knife:
1. I don't care if price will or won't go down, it's too expensive.
2. They could at least introduce a new steel.
3. The AD-10 and 4-Max handles might be good, but longer blade on a folder also means longer handle, will it still be good?
4. They already have plenty of oversized folders.
5. How many people will find such knife useful? Keep in mind either 3" being legal lenght on some places or people just not wanting to carry a pocket brick or freak their coworkers out.
6. What part except butt of the handle did you find as "redesign"?

Your money, not mine. Blow it all on GSM CS inflated "redesigns", I don't care. But I'm not going to keep myself back from writing my opinions here.

Cold Steel is going some "new" path right now. They have some issues from the past, such as the sheaths. And they have some current issues such as 140€ 4116 Verdict or 170€ Warcraft in 4034 (yeah, price on that never dropped here for example, and even 50€ would be overpriced for that pot metal).
Yet they decided not to deal with any of those issues which is a shame.

They do have some good knives, but I like them less and less as a company. Trully a shameful path that they have chosen.

I bought a 4 MaxScout simply to check out the folder that Joe X beat on so hard. I wanted to see how a folder could hold up to his crazy testing as well as it did. It is a truly massive folder and the lock is like a vault. It seems very well made. I would imagine a longer blade will appeal to some folks for sure. It isn’t my ideal folder but can understand the appeal. A 5” long, thick, durable blade with a handle that allows for choking up on as well as holding farther back for chopping, and has a phenomenally strong lock will have a following.

Prices generally start high and then can be found much cheaper with a quick search.

While I wish CS had stayed under previous ownership, I am very happy with the Master Hunter and SRK both in 3v. I plan to get a couple more models in 3v.

We actually agree on GSM , they suck ! Almost no-one here disagrees .

But endless rehashing and bashing seems pointless . GSM doesn't care , mostly .

But for CS fans , GSM is the only game in town . I'm trying to make the best of it .

I love huge folders ,that work, and are affordable . That was one thing that always set Cold Steel apart .

I want to encourage CS to continue producing huge sturdy folders .

Prices in the USA , from some non-sponsors are still excellent values for some models . Unbeatable really .

I got a 4 Max Scout , on sale ,for ~50USD . Same for the AD-15 Lite .

The Signature Spartan S35VN and G=10 , lists for ~400USD . I got one for $100 and a second for $75 .

Bought 2 CPM3V Master Hunter fixed @ $100 each .

Lots of other great deals to be found on CS here in the USA . Plus free shipping ...and some tax, but not like yours !

I see your perspective now.

I also agree that US and EU are different markets. Here we sadly came to a point where for example Fallkniven/Fox/Viper/LionSteel cost significantly less (or even 50% less) than same sized ESEE for example.

Cold Steel used to be abudant and affordable here. But I already see it going down a bit. More affordable brands such as Terava and Morakniv are gaining traction. And also other EU manufacturers are slowly making more and more overbuilt folders.

My most used fixed blades are:
AK-47 field knife in 3V (that is Cold Steel and I love the thing).
ESEE Candiru.
Mora Robust (despite the fact I hated them, I started loving these things recently).

I also have Recon Tanto that I'm happy with and got custom sheath for.
And spear point Recon1 was my EDC until 2 months ago when I switched to Spyderco Matriarch + Candiru combo.

All I can do is hope that new leadership of Cold Steel starts noticing some things that we notice and decide that it's something they want to take care of.

Your concern with sheath material is if you haven't noticed irrelevant in a thread on a folding knife.

Your views on large folders, blade steel and handle scale material/design is irrelevant to us that choose to spend our hobby dollars on CS products.

We like what CS do and want them to keep doing it and we will keep paying.

Thanks for airing your largely irrelevant grievances tho.

I bought a 4 Max when had them on super duper sale. I own it because it pleases me. If the 5 Max goes on super duper sale I’ll probably buy one of those too.
S35VN is fine with me. I have several knives in the “new hotness” steels and I’m not convinced that they’re all that much better for my uses.
Shoot, make it in 1095 and charge 100 bucks less for it!!!
I wish that it was USA made because more stuff made here is good, but it is what it is.

If it was that irrelevant to you then I guess you wouldn't bother to write such detailed response.

However, I find it amusing that you think your opinion is relevant to me even after I ignored your first response to my previous comment. But I guess you do you, I'll now continue to ignore you.

Most of us here own that many knives that the chance of wearing out the blade in 10 of our own lifetimes is effectively zero.

It's not the Great Depression where the whole village had to share the same knife to cut rocks thrown in to the soup to trick people into thinking they had vegetables in the broth.

Fuk most of us do all we can in our meticulously planned EDC knife rotation to try and get any visible signs of wear on the blade.

Super steels are just another unnecessary scam to feed the knife adicts that no longer get a high from last Tuesday's batch of super steels that the marketing department released on an automated schedule.

Thank you for your consistent and reliable irrelevant posts.
