Hey Guys, it has been awhile for me but i'm back on the forums (disabilities are worse but alive). BJ,KM and the rest.

Last time I was here, CT gathering 2 Sept 2008 was starting up.

Do you guys still have it?

B.Jones,

The place has grown from the early days, man I missed so much.

Sub forums and stickies everywhere.

Good to be back.

S/F,
CEYA!

Brian has moved to N. Carolina.

However, we still have get togethers a few times of year. I wouldn't mind starting to plan the next one now.

Maybe sometime this Spring.

Do you have any area's that you know of that will be ok to host a gathering?

Tony,
Mine Hill Preserve in Roxbury is a really good place for a spring foraging day trip and centrally located. Ive found garlic mustard, wild violets and plantain, arrowhead root, chives, dandelion etc. and the biggest patch of ramps Ive ever seen.Maybe morels depending on the time of year. Easy to find and some good trails and neat old ruins from the iron processing. Let me know and I can get more info if y'all are interested.--KV

Thats it. All the flat farm fields in the river flood plain is open space too. Around the edges of the fields is where I find a lot of good forageables[Is that a word?]--KV

That's one of my favorite hikes! Big Mike took me there a few years ago, and I make it a point to vist that place every now and then.

Do you know of a spot that can handle a group og 6-12 for an overnight?

There is some property in New Milford that was recently turned into a park. Don't quote me on it but I believe you can camp on it with a permit. It has a pond and is right next to the housatonic (a nice part of it) and I believe they are going to expand it. Its called Sega Meadows. I think its about 50 acres and they allow bow hunting. Its a nice piece of land with potential that not a lot of people know about.

I know Sega Mdos. Right on the Housatonic. Big old growth pine grove. Its a recovered gravel mine. Town park. Can have quite a bit of traffic on good weather days. Relatively flat so good for mt bikers. Dont know about the foraging there. Entrances off Boardman Rd and River Rd.Good smallmouth fishing in that stretch of the river. Some deep holes. Not sure about the camping but it would probably be walk in with a permit from N.M Parks and Rec. I know the Boy Scouts used to camp in there some.I havent been there in a couple yrs--Keith

Very cool, I'll ask Big Mike to check on it, as that is around his neck of the woods.

Thanks for the info Chris:thumbup:

Sorry, all I heard was "good smallmouth fishing"

:D:thumbup:

We used to float that in kayaks from Gaylordville down to the Boardman bridge. The Sega Mdo stretch is just north of the bridge. No really big smallies but loads of very energetic ones. Ive got xtra yaks if someone wanted to put a float together this summer. That part of the river is my old stompin grounds.:D--Keith

I'm In. We do the same thing from under the gaylordsville bridge but float down to Youngs Field a couple times a year. I just like that area behind sega meadows, its good carp fishing in that stretch too.

Thanks to the gas pipeline and CL&P, Sega Meadows is indeed become a New Milford Town Park.

It's a cool place with several good camp sites in the pine grove.

The city as even added a couple of new fire pits and some benches.

The flood plain at Sega Meadows on a cool October morning.

It's fairly flat, but there's good hiking (and some boulder fields) just north at the Bass Road Complex, and the north end of the Housatonic Range Trail and Torres Cave accross the river to the west.

I'll check with New Milford Parks and Rec about camping permits next week. I have access to some private riverside land about 2 mi north of there also. I'm allowed to hunt there but dont know about an over niter. I'll check with the land owner on that. He's a good guy and may go for it. We'd be behind a locked gate.-Will get back to ya on it--Keith

I think we have learned that private property is always best.

Sounds great guys! KV, I would be happy to join you for a float trip some time. I don't have a kayak, but I have a canoe.

I've got a bunch of kayaks and access to more. I dont know if you've ever fished out of a stable one but its a lot easier than a canoe because your center of gravity is much lower. Just reach out and GRAB that fish!--KV

Sweet! We need to hook up this spring:thumbup:

If you get an NYCDEP permit, you are more than welcome to join me for some larger bass in the reseviors. My john boats are all 14' extra wides, plenty of room fishing from them:thumbup:
