CT Gathering?

It was great to meet everyone. I had a good time and picked up on a lot of tips from everyone. Picked up a IFAK from the give away and a F1 Fallkniven in trade from Greg Haugh of Lone Rider Custom Grips (www.loneridercustomgrips.com). Here are some photos:

Dang - those are some mighty nice F1's!!! That S1 looks pretty peachy as well!

First opportunity to post, I got back at around 12:30-ish this afternoon. I had a BLAST there. It felt very short to me. I met some very awesome new friends, got a chance to meet up with some awesome old friends, The fire-making tutorial was phenomenal, you did a great job Marty and Kevin! Brian it was great to finally hang out with you after only meeting you briefly like five years ago. Gene from Mass, it was great talking with you, comparing blades, talking about kids, family, the past, wicked cool man. Wes, It was great to meet you, after that chemical attack unleashed upon you last night, and seeing you intact the next day, you have earned a place of honor in the blue dagger society. Gene from NJ, you are a hilarious dude man, a walking dynamo with the ability to throw a chat on anybody and come away with some new gear. That attack of the giggles in the middle of the night had me rolling! Brett, thanks for your generosity both in nourishment and in friendship I'd like to share a few more beers with you at another one of these gatherings. Tony, I can't believe we're practically neighbors man! We have to get together for some hikes with the offspring, I have an extra kid carrier backpack to ease her in to it all. Sean it was great to finally meet you bro! Everyone else that I didn't get to chat with it was great looking at you :D. All youse guys that I already knows, it was real nice to see you all again.

Looks like you guys had a great time. Thanks for the pics. I will see some of you this coming weekend in Va.

Great pics everybody. Looks like it was a great time! Nothing like camping, lots of good people and some awesome steel.

Well, I'm new to BladeForums, but wanted to say that it was great to make new friends and see some old ones. I had a great time and want to thank Brian, Kevin and Marty for all of the planning and time they put into this gathering. I can't wait 'til the next...

Jerry

Welcome....:D
Thanks for sharing the pictures and stories, needed to be alittle closer for me to come out...but Looks like it was a very positive experince for all and loads of fun !!! Great thread..

Well now that most of the guys have had their say, I would like to add my thoughts. It was an extremely pleasant, fun filled experience for me and Aggie. Everyone was just outstanding. I can't believe the wonderful people we have met through the forums.
You all made us feel so welcome. I hope my participation has helped some of you to learn more about the outdoors and to appreciate it even more. I will reserve my comments about the Park rent a cops for a later date.
I really enjoy teaching survival skills and I hope you all had as much fun as I did.
Brian, it was great meeting you in person and despite what everyone else says I think you are a great guy.
Kevin, thanks for your help and thanks for doing an outstanding job on the fire course. I guess I really know how to pick a good instructor when I find one even though I really screwed up a few years ago with the A$$hole from downstate NY.
To everyone else, Thank you for a great time and I hope to see you all again.
Oldman Marty and Aggie

PS Hey Kevin, did you use up that whole jar of vaseline?

i spent yesterday cleaning up and unpacking my gear and playing with the new blades i got in a couple of trades.

it was great just sitting around and chatting with likeminded individuals, passing around the knives and sharing opinions and tips.

the lessons by marty and kevin were fantastic and much appreciated. i know i will find more than one use for that horseradish substitute. ;)

it was really nice to be able to handle different knives by different companies and individual makers. i would guess there were upwards of 100 barkies floating around on saturday, and i noticed that nearly everyone had at least one on their belt. they seemed to me to be the knife of choice with everyone.

i handled a bark river for the first time (over fifty passed through my hands i would guess) and i discovered why everyone likes them so much. i got to play with a couple that kevin brought along for testing. very nice cutters, great edge retention and very easy on the re-sharpening.

i handled a knife by dan koster for the first time, very nice fit and finish, great grinds, comfy handles.

i got to toy with a few gossman knives, the psk and the psk jr seemed very popular with the guys.

it was really just a fantastic couple of days, the giveaways were terrific. i can't believe the generosity of the various makers and companies that put up knives and gear for giveaways, and that everyone that was there at giveaway time got something.

it was awesome meeting everyone and spending time chatting with everyone. to the couple of folks that i traded with, thanks very much. and thanks gene for the blanket, i took it out and read it last night. very cool bit of gear.

next time maybe we should bring some more lanterns for the night-time attempts at trading and handling knives...

It was a great event.

My thanks to Marty, Kev, and even Brian.

Look for more photos (and some of the same) here: Link

Big Mike,
Thanks for posting so many great pics in that link..awesome. I wish we had a chance to talk more..there were so many awesome people..it seemed there was always a great discussion going on, and you couldnt be everywhere at once. Gene

Well what can I say about this weekend other than WOW! I was a little skeptical at first since I am new to the forum, I was coming up alone, didn’t know anyone, and not mention camping out with guys with names like GUNKNIFENUT! But I am more than happy I went.
Marty is amazing with his knowledge, and ability to teach. Kevin is a born woodsman as well; I have never met anyone who enjoys teaching as much has him. If I had a quarter of the skills those two have I would be a happy camper. I came home completely overwhelmed with info and a huge yearning to learn more. I am already working on the wife, so I can come up and attend your course this summer.
Brian thanks for putting this together and for all of your generosity.
All the people who attended were extremely friendly and willing to help anyone that needed it. Guys like Big John with there great stories of past experiences, Fernando, who for a guy who doesn’t carry a pack has every piece of equipment on his person at all time; But if you see a piece of 550 cord hanging from his waste, Do Not pull it hard or his wife may not have any use for him anymore!
Generous guys like Tracker1 AKA Eugene, with his buffalo steaks and Brett with his amazing array of food. The wild boar sweet Italian sausage was my favorite, Brett you gotta shoot me a pm with your email so I can order some stuff from you. Marcello, we are neighbors and I would love to get out with the little ones, any Monday or Friday I am free.
I can do this all day, as everyone who attended were good people.
Oh and by the way, Gunknifenut despite his name is a calm, down to earth guy. It was a lot of fun to drink some beers with you and thanks for letting me check out that battle mistress of yours, that’s a badass blade man!
Anyway here some pics, some are you already saw.

Kevin made the bow drill look easy, but my arm would dissagree. I never got a coal, but it felt great getting the form down and thw smoke.I will deffinately keep trying:o

I don't know if I am very calm...but I'll except down to earth:D Tony, you were a lot of fun talking to, and a great guy. Thanks for taking pics for me when my battery died too:thumbup: .I am sorry if I talked your ear off at any point:o Gene

OH YEAH..RescueRiley showed up right before I left on Sunday...and gave me an Openel..I don't know what model, but it is a big one! Thanks John, I wish we could have hung out more..and sorry that when you met me I was kinda hungover!

Gunknifenut, feel the same....Real treat for me to get out and try some of my skills and meet all you guys..Looking forward to the next one I attend
