My take is this
There are bad people in this world
sometimes they do bad things to good people
video game don't make people bad and neither do weapons
no laws will stop bad people from doing bad things only good people with the will and the means to fight back can
when you take away the means of good people to fight back then good people have no defense against the bad people

this story ticks me off to no end.

some mental case that most likely sat home and played COD 24/7 steals his moms guns, kills her and a bunch of little innocent kids..

life isn't a video game (there's n***** respawn) but apparently this scumbag thought otherwise.

four shore, you received an infraction for your profanity. THeres no abbreviation for that even suitable here. Please dont let it happen again. Thank you

For all,

This is terrible and there is no getting over that anyway-anyhow. So just realize that and understand there is nothing anyone can do to change it.

Especially not here . So, lets get back to knives and drinking.

If I have to come back to this thread, and Im locking it down.

Going once, twice...last and final warning

yes.

this was in the report.

He had two bedrooms that were clean and orderly when law officers swept into the house after the shootings Friday morning. Lanza apparently lived in one of the rooms and kept his computer gear and other items in the other one, the sources said. Law officers found evidence that Adam Lanza played graphically violent video games, the sources said.

found here:

As early on in the article as that part is, I think it isn't really substantial. I didn't really see much of a spin against technology, computers, games, etc. in there (and rightly so for once in the news media). It seems to try to imply something by saying Lanza played "graphically violent" games, but it drops it pretty quickly, and I would hope people are smart enough and aware enough of their own world to know that there are hundreds of millions of gamers who don't go out and shoot kids.

i agree, my point was that were not all the same.

some things may have different effects on others.

either way it was a tragedy.

The problem is a lack of mental health assessment and treatment in this country.
Do you trust a government official to asses your mental health? I don't
Do you own guns? yes
Do you own knifes? yes
Do you play violent video games? yes
Do you believe in man made climate change?no

Well you are obviously a violent and delusional lock him up and take away his rights!

Knee-jerk reactions need to be avoided.

Clearly the young man here did not receive much needed mental health care.

This isn't about video games or guns or politics.

It's about a poorly adjusted young man trying to deal with the divorce of his parents and his own inability to fit in a "normal" world.

i agree, it's not about games, guns or politics (i ventured off course for a little).

but i'm having a hard time feeling sympathetic for this "poorly adjusted young man" and refuse to believe that his parents divorce was the cause of such a heartless act.

he's not the victim.

You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news. - Morgan Freeman

If there's any reason as to what happened, I think Mr. Freeman said it best. It's the news channels etc and the way they report it. They turn these monsters in to people that everyone knows the name of. Instead of looking at gun control, we should be looking at media control, because I agree that the way things like this are reported plays at least some point in the next tragedy like this that is bound to occur at some point in the future.

That being said, for the children as well as the adults that did survive, now comes the sad job of helping them to cope with and understand what happened. I mean, how do even start to explain to a child that's somewhere in the neighborhood of five to seven years old that they're never going to see some of their friends again because someone murdered them? I can't even imagine myself. This is going to negativity effect everyone involved for the rest of their lives and it's going to be a long road to a simi-normal life.

This incident saddens my heart to the core...they showed one of the 6 year old victims today on the news, Emily I believe they said her name was...she could've been the slightly older twin sister of a family member of mine...how in the world does another human being (and I use the term only in the anatomical sense) walk into a room and MURDER these innocent, defenseless little ones that did nothing, absolutely NOTHING to him...it is beyond rational explanation or comprehension...I'm not a particularly devout man, but right now, I hope there's an up and down escalator in the after-life and IT took a ride to the lowest level where IT suffers an eternity of pain fit for this act...

It is also sounding like their was some true heroism and sacrifice, including the school principal, Dawn Hochsprung...she earned a place of honor by paying the highest price...her name and the other victims should be remembered long after the murder's is forgotten...

I am sure that every parent that loves their child/children has hugged them alot over the past 36 hrs.
