Guys,

Unfortunately, I missed the last CT gathering but would love to set up another one. I am thinking of a winter gathering. I figure an overnighter for those that want to and just a full day of bushcraft for those that can't make it overnight.

When: Any weekend between December 18th and January 22nd. (Please post your preference)

Where: Connecticut, locations are up for suggestions as well

I'm probably forgeting some details, but I am just throwing the idea on the table. Let me know what you guys think.

I am certainly down for a day, I will try for an overnight, but no promises.

Pachaug state forrest has about 19 campsites that are dog friendly and open until Dec 31st.

Private land will be the best bet, but I don't know of any.

I am open to dates as long as I know in advance.

I'm always down. We are doing a winter campout over MLK weekend already so before then would be best for me. Friday night into Sunday would be great! We can have a backpacking trip along the AT somewhere or find some private land with any luck. Either way, count me in.

i'm in pretty much as long as i have a couple of weeks notice, and as long as its not during christmas...

if we set up a time and place, i'll be there

i'm trying to think of a place to go...kevin on the way back from WAR you mentioned a good campsite on satan's kingdom road along the river...any good for this sort of thing?

Simon,

That spot is really best accessed from the water and the approach from land involves a lot of boulder hopping. I'm not sure anyone wants to break a leg on a casual trip. I'm thinking somewhere that is off the beaten path and requires a short hike in. Dog friendly is a plus after the last experience.

I would try to attend; I have no real winter camping experience, but have long wanted to try. It would be fun to meet some of you too.

Without going into too much detail, the first CT gathering which was a great success was fun until an overbearing park ranger decided to arbitrarily enforce a campground rule. This sent many great friends home for the night and cut short time spent around the campfire for some. I won't let that happen again and I refuse to visit that campsite ever again.

kevin, what about the place you guys went for the last winter trip here in CT? is that available or was that private land?

Hope this thread isn't dying, but I guess what we need to do is all try and think of a possible place to hold this. I will do some research when I am back in CT for the holiday.

Anyway, can everyone post which weekend would work best for them? Thanks.

Pachaug SF is only 15-20 minutes from my home - I'd have pretty much no excuses for missing it, even if it was just to pop by and BS awhile.

If it is on the weekend of the 10th and 11th, JAN. ..I am in. I was going camping that weekend no matter what..My family is out of town and I am home alone..so I am good to go no matter what. Gene

I know we are a lil over a month away, but any ideas on where we are gonna do this?

I was telling Tony, if we can't find a place that allows camping, I'm sure there are some not so well traveled state parks or forests that we can meet for an afternoon.

I know a lot of good places we could meet-up for the day; but getting close to some of them might be a problem if we have heavy snow.

I also have a few spots in mind that might work for an overnight stay, let me see what I can come up with.
