Sal,
I don't like Stainless Steel. Too heavy, too slippery. More expensive.

I'd also like to see models combine "best" features - the higher end steels you're using with the better lock up systems.

I'd like to see the trainers continued on a limited basis. Endura, Gunting, etc.

I'd like to see more emphasis on the kitchen line. EXCEPTIONAL products. Value wise the equal or superior to Henckle, et al.

I'd like to see more collaborations.

I realize I didn't pick 10, but that should give you an idea of what I'd like to see discontinued and my areas of interest.

Tim Zovada(it should have had a plain edge!)
Dragonfly frn
pro-grip frn
all the trainers
Catcherman
Remote release
Wayne Goddard
Toad
Shabaria

ATTENTION : KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE FOLLOWING

SS police : because a classic is a classic
Cricket: because is one of the best design you have.

Joyce & Sal,

Keep in mind that I am voting only under duress and only to make room in your current production schedule for more new cool custom stuff....

Here is my list (its more than 10);

5. Endura Stainless handle
6. Endura FRN handle
7. Endura Trainer (red FRN)
8. Delica stainless handle
9. Delica FRN handle
15. Rescue black or orangve FRN handle
16. Rescue Jr. black or orange FRN handle
19. Dragonfly stainless handle
20. Dragonfly FRN handle
21. Cricket black FRN handle
22. Ladybug FRN handle (black,red,blue)
23. Ladybug II FRN handle (sheepfoot)
50. Police model necklace
51. Police model tie clip

Knife Nut

1. Starmate
2. Wegner Clipit
3. C16 Wayne Goddard Micarta scales( I think they already did )
4. Clipit Jr.
I own all of these and if they discontinue them, they will be even more valuable...NOT!
Cut what you will but if you know what you are doing, you will KEEP the Clipit and the Starmate...rdogout. ( no experience with the other models ).

Please keep the trainers. They will sell, the experts like them, and everyone else (OK, so far BM) is doing it!

On the issue of trainers, I think I need to explain my point.

I agree they are required, however to pay the same price for a trainer as the actual knife seems daft. Spyderco make KNIVES and when I buy a knife, well I buy a knife. I know they make great products like the 204 et al, but how many users want to use a knife to harm others? I understand the need to learn to use a knife in a responsable and capable fashion otherwise it will probably be taken from you and used by the BG. Bram, I think your Gunting knife is an amazing product, but it is just the way I feel, my knife is a tool, not a weapon. Also the availibility of local classes on this knife are very low in the UK. I know there is one and I am on the e-mail list for it, but is is a LONG way to travel. Why not make an aluminium open and closed copy of the Gunting at a lower price point? Surely that would enable 85% of the training to be done?

Sorry that I feel differently to you, I greatly respect your work and effort.

Well - you are right - and indeed these exist - Bram brought a few of them to the seminar held last weekend in Israel - and they should be available soon. For around 50$ you could get both an open and a closed version of the Gunting for training.

Be advised - these aluminum models are nowhere as effective as the trainer - which is a real less-then-lethal weapon.

Ok, you can stop writing about the SSH Endura and Police. They are among the top sellers so no matter what you say they will remain in the line. Let´s drop some of those knives that no one buys instead. Like the ayoob & toad.

Pelle, do you have access to Spyderco's sales figures to back up your claim ?

Here's my list!

10. Delica trainer (red FRN)
13. Pro Grip FRN/Kraton handle
16. Rescue Jr. black or orange FRN handle
23. Ladybug II FRN handle (sheepfoot)
31. Navigator
35. Peter Herbst
38. D'Holder Toad
42. James Keating Chinook
45. Eduard Bradichansky Spydecard
50. Police model necklace

No, but the last time this culling issue was brought up (last year?) it was the same thing. All Spydieholics wanted to get rid of the Police, SS Endura and Delica in favor of new collaborations. Then Sal stepped in and explained that those are to of the top selling models. And that the whole colaboration thing rests upon the mass market models as they are really the ones that bring in the cash to make those exotic not-rally-that-useful models possible.
IMHO those three models are being overlooked by devotees. They deserve their place in the lineup.

Posted this on the wrong thread earlier

Ditch the:
1. Copilot C09
2. Catcherman C17
3. Snap-it C26
4. Native II C41
5. Calypso Jr. II C52
6. Tim Zowada C56
7. Shabaria C59
8. Mas Ayoob C60
9. Police necklace
10. Police tie clip

Like to see more blades given the flat grind treatment, like the G-10 Police was (was that to make up for dropping the large Calypso?), and think the Police and Military should also have the option of tip-up carry.

BTTT

-there seems so be another thread from last year popping up.

Well, if that was the case, then why would Sal ask us in the first place?

I've avoided this discussion so far because I don't feel comfortable suggesting that a model be ditched just because I don't care for it; but the truth is, I have no interest whatsoever in stainless steel handles. Give me FRN, G-10 or even aluminum any time.

If for some reason 10 knives must go, then I would recommend chosing the least profitable 10. That's practical and fairly inarguable.

Thanx for all of the help. There have been some really enlightening commments. It's especially interesting to see the dealer/disributor response when compared to the knife nut / collector response.

We'll be making final decisions right after the blade show.
