Cult classic movies.

Most of those already listed plus:

"Ice Pirates"
"Streets of Fire"
"Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone"
"The Sword and the Sorcerer"
"Beastmaster"
"I come in Peace" (later changed to Dark Angel for some reason:confused:)
"Bloodsport" (most of the '80s martial arts/ninja movies for that matter)
"Three O'clock High"
"Dogs in Space"
"Eating Raoul"
"Eat the Rich"
"I Spit on Your Grave"
"Looker"
"Runaway"
"Killing Zoe"
"The Dark Crystal"
"Doctor Detroit"
"Howard the Duck"
"Heavy Metal"
"Silent Running"
"The Green Slime"
Pretty much any Andy Sidaris production :o :D

The list goes on...

p.s. My friends and I used to comb the video stores looking for "big box movies". Our theory being that the larger and more elaborate the (VHS) box, the worse (better!) the movie. We were rarely (if ever) dissapointed.

Escape from New York, while not one of my favorites, a good example of a cult movie.

Big Trouble in Little China too.

Solent Green
Logan's Run
2001 a Space Odyssey (which still pisses me off every time I see it - it reminds me of how the US has squandered its technological/economic lead)
Alien
Excalibur
Star Wars
Fobbiden Planet (a true classic which inspired much of the later Star Trek TV series)
Plus, all of the giant bug movies of the 1950-60s

n2s

you guys forgot three of the greatest cult films of all time..

Harold and Maude ( my personal all time favorite)
The Gods must be crazy
Rocky Horror picture show.

Car flicks:

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
Bullitt
Vanishing Point
Gone in 60 Seconds (the original)
The Car
Gumball Rally

That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

Let's not forget:
DOA ... early docu about the Brit punk scene... lots of Sex Pistols and Clash footage
The Decline of Western Civilization, pts 1 and 2 (LA punk and metal docus, respectively)
Sid and Nancy
Reanimator
Howard the Duck
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Where the Buffalo Roam same subject (Hunter S. Thompson) but FLLV is a much better film in many regards
Death Race 2000 (the original; I haven't seen the remake)
RollerBall
Escape From New York
Brazil
Blue Velvet and Eraserhead
Johnny Got His Gun
Henry : Portrait of a Serial Killer
Toxic Avenger series
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Reefer Madness
Kentucky Fried Movie
TapeHeads
Tetsuo (do NOT watch on acid )
Rock'n'Roll High School
Truth or Dare (no, it's not a Madonna video ) sorry, no link
Valley Girl
Suburbia same director as the Decline flicks above

gawd, there's so many great ones... thanks for the flashback down memory lane, guys

Johnny Got His Gun is a crazy movie. Of course metallica based "One" off this book...the movie tho....kinda gave me the heebie jeabies...

How about the Wanderers?

YES!!! Man, I loved that movie... buddy who played Terror was actually an opera singer prior to acting... The Wongs were great too.

A&E used to be the Wanderers & Repo Man channel!

Cult films I would recommend? Salo, The Sword of Doom, The Battle of Algiers. Those are the only ones I can think of right now anyway.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
Dune
Labyrinth
Demons
Demons II
Neon Maniacs
Toxic Crusader 1 & 2
Grotesque
Motel Hell
City of the Walking Dead
Night of the Creeps
Trick or Treat
Highway to Hell
Hell Comes to Frogtown
They Live
Fortress

"The Sword and the Sorcerer"
"Eat the Rich"
"Silent Running"

Sword was a particular blend of intentional and unintentional (I think) humour that added up to a decent cheesy sword 'n sorcery flick. Supposedly the sequel is finally in the works... but I ain't heard anything of it lately.

Ahh, Eat the Rich... "Are you dead yet?" "NO!"

Silent Running seemed oppressively bleak... yet somehow I enjoyed the movie in spite of it.

Another recommendation, not for the squeamish or cat lovers:

Hei Tai Yang 731: Men Behind the Sun.

Heavy Metal - all time favorite! Used to catch the midnight show of this whilst in tech school.
The Wall, while not a full length feature, should get an honorable mention, simply because it was shown on the big screen. :p

Harry and Walter Go to New York (James Caan singing and dancing!)
Lost Highway
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Trainspotting
The Thing... Is it just me or are there a lot of Kurt Russell movies being mentioned here??

Added: potential NEW cult classics - Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and The Full Monty...

Early Sam Raimi movies: Evil dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness.

Early Peter Jackson films such as Dead Alive (braindead) Meet the Feebles, Bad Taste.

Terry Gilliam Movies like Time Bandits, The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen, Brazil, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. . .

Everything Rat said and also:

Bladerunner (has anyone seen the Final Cut? How is it compared to the Director's Cut) - best movie of all time

Repo Man

Rock 'n' Rule - an animated movie similar to Heavy Metal but had a possibly cooler soundtrack including Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop - all stuff original to the movie

Any of the Hammer Bros. horror movies

I can't believe nobody has mentioned "Strange Brew" with the MacKenzie brothers, etc. Eh, you hosers!

Step off, hoser! :p
Good catch, this one definitely deserves to be on the list.

For some reason, Flash Gordon and Barbarella just came to mind...
