Cult of the Texas Jack; why should the peaNUTS get all the glory

Love seeing all these STJs. One of case's best knives. My have to carry mine tomorrow.

No pics yet, but I just received my amber bone Texas Jack a few days ago and really like it. I'd like to get a few more and see about having someone swap out the handles for a bit of variety. A great pattern

It's just a thought, still gotta find someone (or someone that knows someone) that would tackle something like that. For now the amber bone is doing just fine.
Case used to produce that pattern in more handle choices than they do today. It seems to be a popular pattern so I don't know why they have curtailed the production to just the Amber Bone CV.

I have a couple of them in the Sunset Winterbottom Bone SS version. I dyed one of them to a nice reddish chestnut color, the results of which I was very happy with.

Good to see this thread get some light again. Great knife I too would like to see some more handle options. I'm a wood guy. Would love an ebony or oak.

Just acquired this red bone Texas Jack, made in 1973. Great walk and talk. Clip point is perfectly centered and the Edge Pro rendered it razor sharp. I'm loving this knife.

Guess I need to jump in here now that I can post pics. Picked up an older (1984) Case Texas Jack in a trade blanket deal back in April. It has some of the ugliest stag (tied with my Copperlock) that I have ever seen. But it feels good in-hand, has good walk & talk, about a 6 pull, and sharpened up very well. Besides the ugly stag you can see a small ripple near the tip of the main blade. My guess is that someone tried to pry with it, bent it, then bent it back.

But for all that, I like the knife a lot. Partly because of the age (I was in my 2nd year of High School), and partly because it was a trade with a friend. Worked great at cutting up some limes for drinks with the wife.

My lovely wife gifted me a beautiful Texas jack today for the anniversary of our first date. She sure knows me well.Well centered and good snap. I just cleaned up the edge a bit and it's ready for full time pocket duty!
Tapatalk won't let me post photos. Anyone got any tips?

Get an account and upload your pics to a photo hosting site like photobucket. After you upload a pic, you'll see a set of links for it that you can copy to use for different purposes. Copy the link labeled IMG and paste it in your post. That should take care of you!

tapatalk is buggy when it comes to interfacing with the VBulletin BBS Forum software which runs BF. Lots of users who use tapatalk get weird results.

Personally, I use a desktop PC

thanks for the help!
Ooh, that's an interesting looking handle on the mark side there. Case's Amber Bone sometimes has more black in the jigging, and sometimes has what I call a "peanut butter" effect. Looks like you got peanut butter with pretty good jigging coverage. What does the reverse side look like?

The back side of your knife is more along the lines of what I see on Case's Amber Bone. If for some reason you want the front to match the back more, there's a trick I have used occasionally using an ultra-fine-tip black Sharpie permanent marker. I just color in the deepest parts of the jigging with the black marker, let it sit for a while, and then do my best to remove it, using something like alcohol or Renaissance Wax. Most will come off but the bone will have absorbed a little of it down in the jigging, so it will look much more like the back side does.

Up to you, just mentioning it. There's nothing wrong with it the way it is, just depends on your personal tastes.

I've done that to a few of my Amber Bone users when they came with significantly mismatched sides and I like the result. I sometimes get fancy and use a combo of yellow, orange, brown, and black Sharpies for those that needed more than just the black jigging touched up.

Other folks like an overall darker knife and soak them in tea for a while (scroll back through the thread and you'll see a few of those). Never tried that myself.

I like the lighter colors. If I can't lighten the back side then I'm leaving it alone. Way too much sentimental value.

Haven't tried to lighten one. Nothing wrong with it the way it is, just mentioning it.

Maybe you could try some rubbing alcohol on a rag and see if some of the surface dye will rub off. Hydrogen peroxide or bleach maybe? Or just use and enjoy. :)

I sure like the jigging and the new grind on that one Dallas - the curved lines of the new grind works well with the wide style of the clip blade - nice! OH
