Curiosity question, what knife will you always own?

I’ll always have my m390 PM2, it’s by far my favorite. If it ever gets lost or stolen I have a spare NIB at the ready. For fixed blades it’s my TRC K-1, I went through a lot of fixed blades before I settled on this one.

+1 on a SAK. I also share your approach of not selling or trading. I do, however, have one [almost] duplicate, which is a Benchmade 710. The almost duplicate is the M390 version with the pretty blue & black scales, whereas my original is in D2 with the original scales. I got the second one when @Benchmade discontinued the 710 o_O:( because that is a knife I never want to be without. It should appeal to you as being 100% designed and made in the USA.
I'm with you on the 710, after carring a M2 in the 90's, I traded it after picking up a new one. Purchased a M4 and D2 just so I would never be without, then Benchmade discontinued it, so picked up a M390. Now the I have 3, I will never be without one of them.

Everything comes and goes... CRKs, Hinderers, Benchmades, Emersons, ZTs, customs, most Spydercos... everything except... my digi-cam PM2s. Those three I will always have available. And they do get carried and used. Maybe not all the time, but a good bit of it.

My collection has not fluctuated much in the last year or so. I'm pretty set on keeping what I have and not adding much more.

A few I'll never get rid of are my 3 cpk knives. They are the best I own. They were somewhat hard to get. They would be very expensive, if not impossible to replace.

Tglb is another one I won't be getting rid of. Bk15 as well.

I'll always have a spyderco salt in se. They are just too damn useful not to own.

I'll always own ...
A Buck 110*
A Schrade Old Timer 7OT
A Stockman*
A Trapper
A (large) Sunfish
A Canoe*
A Barlow
A Marlin Spike
A 4 Blade Scout/Camp knife*°
A Buck 119
A Western L66
A Buck 877
A SAK Huntsman*°
A SAK Signature* (same as a SAK Classic but has a pen instead of tweezers)

*What I have on me 24/7/365.25
*° Switch out depending on my mood or anticipated tasks.
The scissors and saw on the Huntsman can come in handy. I prefer the can opener on the 4 blade Scout/Camp knife, though.

There are two:

Victorinox Classic. I carry the Wenger version (the Esquire) every day, and have been for years. I have a Classic waiting in case I ever lose it, and will always have at least one of these. This little bugger is my tape buster, goo scraper, scissors, toothpick, tweezers, tiny pry bar (the nail file), and file. It gets used multiple times a day, every day, without fail.

Second is a ZT 0562. I got mine when they launched, and it was my most carried folder from then until about April of this year. The thick blade stock makes it wedge/bind a little in long cardboard cuts when I’m at work, so I’ve been going to .12” blades instead of .16” (it does make a difference), but that thing has been a beast for me. I’ve used the hell out of it, and you’d never know by looking at it (thanks in part to the Esquire eating all of the tape— no adhesive residue on the 0562). Locks up air tight, flips great, amazing ergonomics, good grind. I love it.

If I lost all of my knives, I would replace those first, and if I ever scaled back, I’d keep those.

Probably a Case Peanut or some SAK. I also really like my Spyderco PM2 Lefty. I wish more manufacturers would make lefty or ambi locks and/or sheaths.

My ESEE 6.

First time I broke the $200 barrier and I use it all the time when in the woods.

Lifetime no questions asked warranty and takes anything I can throw at it.

It is much more beat up than the below pic shows. It is a hardwood batoning machine.

My forever is a SAK Centurian. I have three of them. One on me at all times, one in my camp cook box, and one in a drawer by my bed as a spare if one of the others disappears or breaks. Had it for years, feel naked without it. I sometimes carry multiple knives but it is the one that's always there on my belt.

I have quite a few favorites but if I had to pick one that I’ll never part with it would be the 0452g10. The 452 is my favorite knife design anyway and with that grippy g10, plus the fact that it’s m390, I could never sell it, even tho I’ve seen some go for $450ish on eBay recently. Kinda wish I bought 2 or 3 of em
