current production schedule updates.

Should we start a Survivors! cars, trucks & SUVs talk thread? It's going to be a bit of a yawn fest in June ;)

I think we should start topic specific thread for everything rather than derailing almost every thread created, like we normally do.

That way Ellie can skip the stuff she doesn't want to read about, like our speculation on the child labor force production schedule dates.

See how I kept it on topic there? Pro move.

Hi Ellie .. I hope all is well.

Ellie Regarding the Lead Times.. I understand there are no guarantees, but just trying to get a rough idea for some outstanding orders and trying to get a ballpark.

Regarding the SK ballpark guesstimate "Once a model starts production it typically takes 4-6 months for all of the materials to be produced and another 1-2 months to get orders finished, sharpened, and built"

Ellie, Does that run together or separate? In other words, is it eight months 4.7, then eight months after the 4.7 is complete before the 2.7 is complete, then eight months after the 2.7 is complete before 4.1 is complete.. meaning it could be 24 months before seeing the 7/7 ?

The reason I am asking because I see the production schedule has multiple models listed as "in production" but I think SK has in the past been running one model at a time for releasing and leadtimes.. (ie, 5.1 takes six month, then 4.7 takes six months etc)..

Thank you for any help.. I sincerely appreciate it.

There can be several models in production at each time. For example, the GSO-4.7s are what we are working on right now, but the GSO-2.7 blades are done with the heavy machining and just waiting for Guy's attention. Likewise, the GSO-4.1 blades are nearly completed. It is just that the GSO-4.7s are our main focus right now, though Guy may slip in an occasional GSO-2.7. He did this same thing for the GSO-4.7s, which is why it has seemed like the GSO-4.7s have been shipping out for a long time now. In reality, we were still focusing more on the GSO-5.1 for a portion of that time. We already have steel for all of the models (except for the extras needed to cover the most recent GSO-5.1 preorder), and will be getting them started through the remaining production steps as quickly as it makes sense to do so.

Not that anyone has solicited input or requested feedback, but I have a background in management consulting and project management, and feel somewhat compelled to provide both.

As an outsider with only basic information gathered from Ellie and Guy's posts, I know there is probably a heck of a lot more going on behind the scenes for which we're unaware. However, I wonder whether a thorough business process and supply chain study wouldn't go a long way to gathering all of the inputs and outputs, and detailing their respective constraints. From that baseline, a process re-engineering plan could be developed and implemented by priority. Once the new framework was in place a continuous improvement plan could take effect to further mitigate operational constraints while increasing output, customer satisfaction, and ultimately revenue generation and bottom line results.

There is no mitigating operational constraints right now. Guy is the constraint. He wants these blades to be of a certain quality and the only way to guarantee that level of attention (without constant reworks) is to do the skilled tasks himself. We are always looking for ways to keep him as effective as possible, but for the time being he is the bottleneck.

I may be alone here,, but I don't mind the wait, especially with the level of quality I know I'll be receiving. I've got three Busses on order, that I paid for back in February, and that's not long compared to some companies! Ask anyone who's been waiting for a Randall.

This is the all-time best answer I could ever hope to see. This is why I am a full-on Survive! nut. Please don't ever change this business model, unless of course Guy finds a person (or people) that he trusts implicitly to do the work as he would. This is what makes the S!K product/company so much better than most others. I hope everyone (including Guy and Ellie) realize this. Start cutting corners to make more product available and you will end up with product that may still be something of quality, but would almost certainly fail to retain the high standards of the knives we are seeing currently. That being said... can you tell Guy to get off his arse so he can put out some 4.7's so I can get one in my hands? PLEEEEEEEAZE! I'm dying over here. ;)

Don't step on Superman's cape.
Don't spit into the wind.
Don't pull the mask off the ole Lone Ranger.
And don't ask Guy to increase the speed of production. :)

I've butchered a fair amount of 1084, if I liked my family only a little bit less I'd try and move my ass out to be a grinder monkey. I'd get flipped off immediately but I imagine that's the entirety of Guy and Ellie's problem with hiring another person. Plenty of good people, but that is a severe commitment to move to their location.

XtianAus,
By regular sale do you mean in stock with immediate shipping?
That smiley face means you are joking, right?

Major update!

Available Monday, July 4th at TBD, PST:

To be determined, check back here on Sunday!
Finishing up (In the final stages of production: being finished, sharpened, built, and packed up):

GSO-4.7: Preorders and Presale orders are shipping out in regular batches.
GSO-4.7 Cru Forge V: R&D Presales shipping after the Cerakoting has been completed. More will be available after those ship.
GSO-2.7: Materials are finishing up and preorders will start to ship after existing GSO-4.7 orders have been shipped.
GSO-4.1: Finishing up at heat treat with materials in the final stages of production.
In Production:

GSO-7/7: At production grinding
GSO-3.5: We have steel
GSO-12: We have steel
GSO-6: We have steel
Available for Pre-Production Ordering:

GSO-4.5 Bushcraft Knife: We have steel - Preordering is closing Monday, July 11th!
GSO-10: We have steel
GSO-8: We have steel
(We do not have guaranteed delivery dates for preordered knives. Once a model starts production it typically takes 4-6 months for all of the materials to be produced and another 1-2 months to get orders finished, sharpened, and built. Since the knives are produced in large production batches, there will be some time between when your order is placed and when production actually starts for that model. Please keep an eye on this Production Schedule to see where specific models are in the production process.)

Starting Production ASAP:

GSO-5.1: Waiting on more steel
The Necker II: Waiting for steel
The SURVIVE! Necker: Waiting for steel

ni1s, you beat me to it

Was it Riz who wondering about the 4.5 cutoff?

This is some good information. I can't imagine the Friday First will have much more information than this.

This has probably been asked before, or addressed, if so sorry, But will all the upcoming releases have the New Heat Treated 3V Steel? Thanks

I've been waiting for the 4.5 cutoff date. But now I just don't know... I might just wait and try to catch a second or "real sale". Hmmm....

Everything including and continuing on from the 4.1 will have the new HT

If you don't mind a factory second and want it months sooner than the preorder customers then go for a Monday sale

For Monday sales do "Buy" buttons go active on the factory seconds knives or does a separate factory seconds link open up?
