Custom Benchmade Scales

After receiving my scales from Ryan I felt compelled to come back and post my appreciation and gratitude for his great work! If the blue G10 scales in Ryan's post #196 aren't mine, then I got a set exactly like those. I think those are mine though which also means Ryan test fits everything before shipping out. Materials are excellent and the fit is better than the green aluminum they replaced. My blade is now centered perfectly and I can only imagine the tolerances required to make that happen. I like the flow through back with the stainless standoffs better, and I added the Benchmade deep carry clip. It is now my perfect daily carry knife and I can't stop looking at it. Thanks so much Ryan for your great work- it's worth every penny and has made the great 940 outstanding!

You too? Me three!!! :D Can't wait for mine to arrive! Shouldn't be long now. That blue twill looks sooo good!!! I have something in mind for the standoffs on mine that should look pretty awesome.

My 943 has been in my back pocket almost every day for over 10 years now, regardless of what knife was riding in my front pocket. It is a much larger knife than it seems; a BIG knife in a small package. The blue twill scales will make it even more "sheeple" friendly, one of the primary reasons I carry it. In an office setting, people don't freak out when I pull that out, vs. something like a lightning-strike carbon fiber ZT 0560 or Spydie PM2 or Millie.

Welcome to BladeForums!!!

Got my DOAT scales!!! :D   These pictures don't do them any justice, I will need to get some better ones in the natural light this weekend.

They turned out fantastic!!! I polished up the spool standoffs and then heated them to almost glowing with a torch to heat-color them to blue/purple to match the scales. I think it turned out pretty good!

Some pics of my blue twill scales from Ryan, showing the polished and heat-colored spool standoffs. Color matches the scales pretty well.

Fantastic scales!!! Thanks Ryan!!! :D

Impressive work! I browsed most of the thread, but didn't see any 940/943 canvas micarta scales. Have you done them before? Also, what are the options on the back spacer with the 940/943?

Do you think you could do scales like the new 940-1601? I hate that it's in D2, and I think their wood is subpar quality for the price of their knives. I think your scales with the standard 940/941 blade would be much better quality.

Ryan, have you ever thought of making scales for Cold Steel Code4 ? I know you are a Benchmade fan (as I am actually), but Code4 is a great knife with ba handle (slim and sleek).

A g10 set of scales would improve its ergos THAT much. I admire your skills and think i would definitelly buy that knife if you ever decide to make G10 scales for it and order a set of scales.

I 2nd this. I would buy a second 940-2 and put your wood scales on it if you made them

These scales look absolutely awesome. I mean WOW. I have a couple of mini-grips that could really use some of these... but the choice seems enormous :)

hello DOAT - I've got a question on some scales for a large doug ritter. I've got LSCF from you and I like them, but I want to change it up.

Questions on green moonglow and green canvas micarta.... my LSCF has blue moonglow gear backspacer, but blue isn't nearly as GITD as the green. so, what can we do here? Let me know. thanks for doing great work!!

Sorry, micarta doesn't seem strong enough for the 940, the scales are too thin and the knife doesn't have full liners. I like to keep it to solid G10 or carbon fiber.

It shouldn't be any different than making scales for normal 940.

Sorry, sticking to designs I already have done for now.

Sorry, I'm definitely not making wood scales for the 940. It just wouldn't be strong enough in my opinion.
