Custom Benchmade Scales

I am not sure where I got this picture, but can a similar pattern be done for a large griptilian with micarta ?

Sorry that's a keyman design and it's kind of a material he's known for using so I wouldn't want to step on his toes. The picture looks to be a large griptilian already though, I'd talk to him about getting one made.

This guy does great work

Thank you very much. Nice looking set of ritters. Everyone should get one while they last, they've been discontinued.

Thanks for the answer
It sounds very fair and professional
I appreciate that
I will contact Keyman for this

I was asking because i have really enjoyed scales you made for my mini some times ago

Tried to slack off as much as possible over the holidays, still managed to get some work done though. Here's a few of them.

Amazing work! Will you have scales for a 580 Barrage soon? I'm thinking of G10 and profiled and ball mill chamfered similar to the 940's as well as a custom spacer. Thanks.

I wanted to have it done for January, but I got so many holiday orders it's looking more like sometime in February now.

Beautiful beautiful work! Any time frame on the Benchmade 710?
That I can't say, it's definitely on the list but I'm having a lot of trouble finding free time lately. At least a few months I'd say.

A few from this week.

Oh man, that is some amazing work in this thread.

Would the 940 scales be strong enough for a small finger nail sized maple leaf shaped inlay made out of red C-tek? Say between the axis slot and the first liner screw? It would be more supported in that area. Even if they were a tad thicker than normal.

Well, there's no way to do something as intricate as a maple leaf as an inlay. You have to consider that the smallest end mill I'm likely to run is stick 1/16 wide... so you can't really do anything that comes to sharp points. You could do an engraving... but that's not going to have any color really and doesn't show up well on G10 or carbon fiber, that's really more for metal. Best bet would be to find something round that has a maple leaf on it already, mill a round pocket and inlay the object in to the scales.

But then there's the placing, it might seem like that's a good spot in the knife but it's actually the thinnest least supported part of the scale. That's directly over the milled pocket in the back of the scale were the omega springs move around. There just isn't really any good place in the 940 to add an inlay... or change much of anything at all. Best I've considered is like a narrow strip between the 2 liner screws maybe... but I'm not sure about it.

I received my custom CF scales with Ironwood Burl inlay and spacer for my BM Grip...and to quote the Riddler...."Joygasm"!!! ("Batman Forever" Circa 1995).
Planning my next knife purchase around the scales I will order. Exceptional work...you cannot be disappointed. The craftsmanship and execution are worth the price of admission.
And, deathofallthings is a pleasure to work with...so, no trepidation there either. Cudos !

Hey Ryan, Amazing work you have here. Have a question about some mini barrage scales. I have the g10/aluminum version of the 586 mini-Barrage. Do you have your program setup in suck a way that I could order just new scales for the aluminum portion or would i need to order the entire thing as a 1 piece? Was thinking something similar to what you've already done in the picture below but to match the factory bottoms?

Unfortunately I don't have anything that would work for just replacing one section of the 586 scales. That's a more difficult order than one might think. While my scales do match the factory size/shape/contour within reason... to match exactly the shape so that they would meet up perfectly would be nearly impossible with out having benchmades own drawings. There's just no good way to measure and organic curve in both directions like that. I'm afraid the best I can do is the complete scale replacements. Sorry I can't help with that one.

You need a 3d scanner and then you can steal them (G) I was loving your inlayed scales but I also need grippy scales like the plastic scales on the griptillian.
