CUSTOM MACHETE Challenge!

The mail ran a little late today. Bill's chopper got from Oregon to Georgia in two days! Oh yeah, what a beast this one is. It has a nearly 13" long blade and is 1/4" thick with a flat grind. It weighs about 30 oz. That's nearly 2 lbs, but it feels great when I swing it.

I just have to whack something right now with this! It's a good wood splitter!

All it took was just a little tap. :D I love that green micarta, or is it G10? It came with a nice kydex sheath.

Whew! I finally found it at the opposite end of the box. I'll be shipping it along with all the others to Joezilla for his video tests. Thanks. Differentially heat treated 5160. That ought to be tough enough! :D:thumbup:

I liked Koyotes so much I emailed him and ordered one just like the test machete but a couple inches shorter. :)

Holy Cow  Those are super Sweet ! I'm trying my best not to purchase any "large" blades this year but you guy's are killing me :p They all 3 look awsome but that Koyote just really catches my eye :D

LOL. I got to play with the Koyote before he sent it off. I have first dibs on it. It is a very sweet blade.

David Farmer is shipping his entry out today. The long awaited Custom Machete Challenge is only days away! :D

David Farmer's Custom Machete entry arrived today. Looking like an over sized Punal Gaucho knife, or maybe a Khyber Bowie, it is certainly a unique take on the machete.
Top to bottom: Magnussen's Parang, Siegle's Bolo, Farmer's Khyber Machete, Culberson's Bolo Machete, and Koyote's Bolo Machete. Or at least that's how I am describing them for now.:D

David's knife feels like a real slasher. The 1/8" thick blade is about 14 1/2" long. The handle looks like Bocote wood to me. It is plenty big, like the others, and works as a counter balance to the blade. At 22 oz, and with a balance point closer to the handle than some, this is a fast knife.

Oh yes, this one is made to slash vegetation. And that's what machetes do.

A good machete should be able to slash clean across free standing palmettos, and Farmer's can surely do that!
I'll be using and testing all these fine machetes for the next few days. Thanks to all the knife makers who worked so hard and contributed. Let the chopping, slashing, and cutting begin!

One of the most pesky machete problems I face often is very tall grass laced with spindly little yarn sized vines. Sometimes these vines will be laced through thin bamboo or taquara. We also get ferns that grow up year after year in the same place and turn into an impenetrable mat about chest high. I'd like to see how these blades do in that kind of medium. Mac
