Expensive knives don't necessarily do anything more than production knives they're usually just nicer in looks and finish. If all you care about is cutting something than yes it's rediculous to fork out extra cash for a tool. However if you care about the looks or in some cases how well the knife cuts then you start paying more. I personally think that a beautiful working tool is the highest form of art and I pay for it. That being said there are times when a custom does actually perform better then a production counterpart. My Gossman UNK has outperformed every production fixed blade knife I've owned.
