custom shop has magnacut for 110, 112, 113, 119, 501 and 722

Although I do have a 119 Pro in S 35 VN, most of my experience to this point has been with S 30 V. I probably have 10 blades with that particular steel. I’ve had some good luck so far with a couple diamond sharpeners and a sharp maker. I wasn’t planning on changing anything unless I learned something different.

That would coincide with most everything I have been reading so far. I assume it’s going to be a while before I get this 110 dull enough to warrant time on the sharpener. But I haven’t read anything that has me concerned either.

What do you consider the right stones?
on touching up ive had good luck and results with ceramics. resharpening fully I might use diamonds just cause I have them and I know they work on everything. sic works well on most pm steels also. old style arkansas and such stones I just don't know as I don't use those anymore.

Well, I know if it were mine it would have been put to good use a while ago. 😊

I honestly forgot all about it. Bought it because it was first production run, and when I got it, I stuck it with the other 110’s. Didn’t even take it out of the brown box o_O

I can’t say that I’ve ever done that. But if it would make you feel better, I can send you another shipping label with my address on it and I promise I will open it up 😉.

In all seriousness, I wish I’d have done the same thing.

I think I picked it up because it was a first production run. Then all the talk of the heat treat came about, which I’m not sure where we all landed on that. A bit soft on the first run? I can’t exactly remember.

You know the rest of the story. Time marches on, I forget about it, and here we are 😅

I carry a few different 110’s so this one got lost in the fray.

(Also I see you are from central ks. I’m right outside kc so no label needed ;)😆)

I completely understand. :) Also, good to have a fellow Kansan on this particular forum. I'm out in the country, 45 minutes north of Wichita.

I keep wanting to pick up a few sic stones to try them out but so far I haven't seemed to need them. My arkansas stones I just leave in the shop anymore to work on garden tools.

I hear ya. We’re always left out of the coastal knife shows with all the best goodies 😂 😂

Already have a 112, 119, and 501 in Magnacut and I just ordered a 110 in Magnacut as well to round things out.
Always wanted a 110 in that steel but kept missing the limited edition orders due to work.
I've been beating on the 112 MC at home breaking down a lot of boxes and using it to cut all-of-the-things and it still doesn't need sharpening, I just strop it a bit afterwards.
When the 110 gets here it will probably wind up on my belt as my EDC knife.

My favorite knife steel has been S35VN for about 8 or 10 years now, because it seemed to have the right balance of edge holding & toughness, for my type of use, anyway. And it was always easy to keep sharp with just a few minutes on the sharp maker. From what I've been hearing about Magnacut, it takes that combo to a new level. Mine's has been getting used every day, but nothing to really test it yet.
Buck did a special limited 110 Hunter Sport in S35VN a while back this year.
I picked that one up as well because S35VN is pretty good and the end result is a pretty good folder.
In my limited testing so far it's been fine for camp chores and even cleaned a few small fish with it. I'm going to hang onto it because all the other 110 Hunter Sport knives I've seen are in S30V and I already have a 110 in S30V.
Were you were able to snag one of the S35VN 110s too?

No, I never got a 110 with it, but I have some CRKs & Hinderers in S35V and that steel works better for my every day cutting chores than any of the newer super steels that I have. The last year or so, I just fell out of love with all the modern folders, and went back to carrying the traditional Buck 112 & 110s. I really had no problems with with the old 440 & 420HC steels, but the Magnacut sounds like a new super steel that I could live with.

I got mine in today. For the money the fit and finish on the custom shop knives just can't be beat. I haven't been this impressed with a knife in years.

I agree 100%. Not everybody likes Buck knives. I get that, but compared to the prices of other manufacturer's production models, Buck's Custom Shop knives are a real bargain as far as I'm concerned.

I will say there

Especially since the price for magnacut is 25 bucks more then s30v, not a $150-200 mark up like other manufacturers.

With how nice this is, there is zero shot this one is getting thrown into the tackle box.... no chopping baits in half directly on the sand/concrete or getting dunked in the surf. I have an older custom shop 110 with a black cerakote blade and cherry wood scales that is more fit for that role.

I with you both on this. Super impressed. I'm embarrassed to say that in the past I've paid quite a bit more for plastic or G10 handled flipper knives. Knives I have often treated a bit rough. I have to remind myself of that when I hesitate carrying my new CS 110. My main struggle is that it's a work of art! I appreciate that Buck has seen fit to offer MagnaCut through their Custom Shop without an extreme up-charge. Now, as Ironbut Ironbut has mentioned on multiple occasions, a 112 in the same would be a great addition to the option list. :)

Received my knife today. I really like the elk this one has. I am struggling a bit with how uneven the bevel is towards the tip of the blade. It is very different on both sides. If this was going to be a frequent user that wouldn’t bother me one bit, however this was more for my collection than anything else. It is still very sharp.

I am debating about seeing if I could get a new blade. I looked at my other custom shop knives and this one is by far the most uneven.
