Custom shop

Is anyone naive enough to think the Basspro prices will stay where they are?

Last time I looked Basspro does not manufacture knives......they have to get them from somewhere.

Grab those bargains while you can, they will not last more than a few weeks.

Was that "delivery date 5-30" or "Expected Shipping date 5-30" that's what mine said.

Expected shipping date,Yes.I think it's a awesome deal and the nickel silver is worth extra $ to me.I'm a hobbiest knifemaker and all steel has gone through the roof this past year.Along with all other materials foreign and domestic.

So we are learning that they have some (at least these two) on hand for immediate shipment?

Wonder how big the stockpile is?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I ordered two custom knives last week (before the price increase) and both were also shipped the next day. I can guarantee these two were not laying around.

Shipping the next day means they have them stockpiled, irrespective of price.

Begins to make them seem less custom, doesn't it?

Mine always took at least a month.

So.....all this time the Custom Shoppe was supposed to be closed, they were working like beavers stockpiling the more common orders?

A month seems reasonable for a custom knife.

Stockpiling to sell at a huge price increase? When you are supposedly closed?

Something just don't add up.

My understanding is that the CS was never really closed; just that they were not taking electronic orders through their website. And I think if you go back and review some past recent posts, you will find that this issue was brought out repeatedly. In fact, the phone number to the CS was even posted so people could do that. I have had past orders take several months as well, but the order last week was shipped the next day and, once again, I can guarantee they were not laying around. Roc, my man, what in the world have you been smoking the past few days??

I agree that it's a good idea to grab them while you can.
After seeing what Buck did with their Custom Shoppe prices, who knows what their future pricing plans are?

Also, I'm seriously considering buying duplicates of my favorite Buck knives like the folding Kalinga in S30V.
Instead of a street price of $100.00, maybe next week it'll be $200.00.

Tin Sue - I think that for a time, the CS was actually closed with no access either by phone or internet. (Will try to find the post; I remember posting about it.)

Well folks, I guess I'll take the plunge and give the new Custom Shop a try.

I have waited to get a KOA Flamewood 110, but due to the new price increases, I dropped to Heritage Walnut.

154CM Nickel Silver and Heritage Walnut ordered just now, and the confirmation email says the expected shipping date is tomorrow, which seems REAL quick, so we'll see.
I'd be real interested to get a report on the fit and finish of the knife as it compares to the fit and finish of the former CS knives.

I just ordered one myself with cherry wood and nickel silver.Bought a tan leather sheath for $5.00.Total $106.00.Seems like a fair deal to me.
Mr. Pig Lips (great handle)
I think you're right. Not bad. The only beef I have is with the outragous prices they're quoting for stag, flamewood and elk scales, not to mention the paua scales. I even think the cost of damascus is ok.

Roc, my man, what in the world have you been smoking the past few days??

Hmmmmm.....this morning you were calling me a prophet because I predicted the layoffs.

Now I'm just a smoker of funny stuff.

Fame is so fleeting.

Roc, some of the all time great prophets have been smokers of funny stuff!!

Well,I'm sure you know India stag is not legally imported into the country any longer. The prices that have been shown around here from ebay is fleeting.Buck needs sets in the hundreds or thousands ,a couple of sets wont help much.As for the rest,do you really believe they want to rip you off,or do you think they are offering the best price they can and still keep the doors open.I choose to believe the latter and will do my tiny part to keep them rollin' as often as i can.The thought of a Taylor brand Buck 110 gives me the willies.:barf:I'm sure they could all retire multi millionaires if they wanted to sell out and not have to worry about all us talking trash about them.OK,I said enough.

I got 4 to compare it to, and lord knows I post pictures, so I'll give it a real once over when it gets here! :D

Well, the first part may be true, but certainly not the second; the vast majority of people here are certainly not talking "Buck trash."!!

I think they're setting the prices they think will work best for them. UNDERpricing brings you a lot of good will and slow death.

I'm sure that the underpricing of the past was causing high demand that was destructive to the company (too much work and little or no profit).

What's the solution? Set your prices so orders will decrease and you still make the same or more profit.

Then you can also reduce the number of employees, thus increasing profits further.

If that works for them......hallelujah.

If not, prices will come down. In our own dealings we are careful not to start out with a price that's too low.

This is not rocket science.

Okay, maybe someone could help out those of us who can't view the CS website.
