Custom Slipjoints

Jim, the roads run both ways. :D

Gotta love that acorn shield. I carry this knife a lot and appreciate the design more and more. I like your photo just fine amigo.

Bringing this back up,with a couple of recent scores from the makers for sale section, right here on BF's....The two Ken's

Both of these knives are of fantastic fit & finish, nice grinds & swedges, real pleased
Two great makers,we're lucky here, they continue to offer them there
Thanks,
-Vince :)

The knife above was the inspiration for the knife I had Ken make me for my B-Day, I asked for the same size as you can see but in a barehead spearpoint. It turned out perfect and while a large knife it carries very well.

Terry Davis only brought 4 knives to sell this year, at the Oregon show.
He's a busy guy, building a house over the last couple/few years, and his output is notoriously slow but well done.
I was lucky to find myself at his table the instant he decided to pass around his knives. I completely missed them last year. As I walked to his table, last year's knives flew away in seconds!!
He's dispensed with the lottery lately. If it were at Blade, there would be pushing and shoving and other mayhem! Fortunately the Left Coast brings out the "groovy" in people!
Terry mentored Roy Humenick, and shares a table with him, and Roy bought one of the knives out of the gate, a single blade trapper I think - it was just a blur!
A good guy named Marty next to me scored the three blade stockman he's been dreaming about for years. A little sheepfoot jack went to another guy, and when this knife came out I un-groovily shot my hand out and came close to snatching it rudely!
It's hard to look polite when that urge takes over, but get a load of my provocation!

A "Barrel" pattern Moose, at a bit over 4 1/4", this is a big handful, modeled loosely after a very old knife someone showed Terry last year.
A big shape like this COULD look like a brick! But Terry subtly tapered and softened it to give it that old-timey feel. It in no way feels square and clunky, but just right!! Apparently, running the long pulls though the tang is an old exhibition trick, to give a show knife a classier look. The grinds, action, and fit are just perfect!
Terry is a sole-author maker; treats his own steel, and jigs his own bone.
And he's got that subtle eye for perfection that (hopefully) all makers strive for! His knives aren't flashy, but they are the best!
He runs with the big (or is it Old) Dogs!;)

Nice find there, Charlie. I wish I could've seen that stockman as well. Congrats to you!

Now I wish I really could have been there! Not only to meet you Charlie but also Terry Davis. Really nice looking Moose. How do you feel about the lack of choils?

I wish it had choils Ken! But then of course the Gods would be offended!
The Gods are very exclusive in their perfection! Do you know the custom of allowing a flaw to exist, so that you are not struck down by lightning?
Ken?? Ken?? What was that big crack-a-BOOM!!????!!

Seriously, I am thinking of filing them in myself. I mean, I crinked that Remington pretty good!

Take my knife . . . .Please!!:D:D (cymbal - kick drum!)

Enough with the jokes. It would be better with choils. For all my kidding around, I haven't decided whether to ask him to add them or not.

P.S. Ken, you would enjoy meeting Terry! Very pleasant, and IMO, you guys speak the same language!

Nice Moose Waynorth! I've always admired Terry's work. Very clean and precise. That jigging is pretty too.

Charlie,

I would love to meet Terry some day. He would not know me from the man in the moon but he mentored me in the form of his book that he co-authored with Mr Shadley. Ken Coats was and is nice enough to lend me his copy.

Ken

I'll merge this into the custom thread later.

We are in for treat now, boys and girls. The Gus dude finally got a camera. Just look at what he has already posted and he hasn't even got new camera smell worn off yet.

Very nice indeed! I particularly like the file work on the Ron Newton....
