If it were not for bladeforums I would not even know about this infringement.

Thaks you guys, I have sent my reps and congrs emails of the letter from knife rights (in my own words). I will be awaiting the next step.

Somebody should contact Ted Nugent. I bet he can get the ball rollin'. Seriously. Anyone know if he's been saying anything?

I was looking into that just before reading this thread. If anyone has a subscription to his website, they could post in his forum I think.

Doug, thanks for leading our charge. I met you three years ago at Blade, and we went out for Japanese afterward as I recall. I could tell then your passion for our rights, and it was inspirational.

I'll do my part, and wouldn't it be something if every member here did theirs?

Let's jump off the fence and fight folks! I don't really want to become an outlaw.

Professor.

Please don't think I'm dense, but how will this affect anyone here? Customs secures the borders (not very well, methinks), so are they going to search everyone coming into the country? what do they have to do with making laws, anyway?

Isn't everybody just loving "Change"!

I think, that if they keep this up, there is going to be a revolution.

would every law enforcement agency in the country get some kind of memo on this, how else would it be enforced?what about the thousands who dont know about this,go to wal mart, buy a zing & risk arrest?

I'm dealing with Stabenow and Levin. Both are useless and could care less about the Constitution or the rights of the individual. But they're gonna hear from me anyway.

Jim

Not saying this is the case here, but some folks have a vested interest in keeping things stirred up. When I was flying, all the mags predicted an end to general aviation. When I played golf, all the mags said that golf was doomed because of development. I'm a life member of the NRA, and they seem to have a crisis of the week, too, although I have a tendency to believe them more often than not. What is really the issue here? What exactly are the Feds up to? can some one explain it to me in simple language?
Thanks

I'm wonderin' the same thing.

the quick and muddy of it is Customs is going back on what it sees as switchblades aka flickknives, autos, gravity knives, et cetera.

They now deem assisted and "gravity" to be switchblades, if it can be opened with one hand it suddenly becomes a "dangerous weapon" and no longer has a "utilitarian" function.

Pure political BS, think of Europe, Canada and Australia knife laws.

EDIT: Thanks Doug and Sue for your continued fight for our rights.

Where are states rights in all this and what are the ramifications for me, in Nevada if this happens?

while CBP is integrated more or less now, don't confuse border patrol with customs. Customs keeps unlawful goods out of the US. If they say easy openers are dangerous/unlawful, then why wouldn't other agencies at other levels follow suit.

As an Aussie who has to put up with poorly produced knee jerked reactive legislative laws (gun and knife laws in particular), all I can add to this discussion is once Laws or ammedments to determinations of laws are introduced, they are normally there to stay.

If you do not fight now, whilst you still have the time through the legal process, the gate will be shut. Get on your keyboards and voice your opinions and hopefully you will be heard and common sense will prevail.

Good luck.

What scares me is that I see this as one more needless example of the federal government, or an arm thereof, determining what I can do in my own pocket.

In general I am a "less government" type... I dont want the CBP telling me what kind of knife I can carry or that my going to my farm in Tennessee from Georgia that I have committed a felony if my one hand opener (spyderco) is in my pocket.

The conspiracy lover in me thinks this is a first shot across the bow headed toward restricting gun rights as well. Kind of a "lets see what we can do with this "weapon" and then see what we can do with those "weapons". Granted a blade is far more utilitarian than a gun, but still.

Just my .02.

I am new here and I want to say thanks to bladeforums for helping me find out about this. I use an automatic everyday I am at work. I have to have a knife I can open one handed because I am usually using my other hand to do something else at the same time. (Firefighter/Paramedic)
I am mailing letters tommorow. I can not believe what is happening to our Country. These types of rulings and laws being pushed in like this has to stop.
