Customs Says "NO EXTENSION!" - They Want Your Pocket Knives NOW!

Our elected officials are going to do whatever they want. They have stopped listening to the public because they feel we are too "stupid" to know what's good for us. I'm 53 years old and after every election, I've watched our rights being taken away. I'll write my congressmen, maybe it will help. I believe the knife lobby does not have enough members to change the elected minds. First knives then the guns. We all need to remember this during the next congressional elections. The only thing congress understands, is they may be voted out of office. It's time to reshuffle the deck and deal a new hand. Let's hope for the best, if not I'm going to become a law-breaker.

We've gotta find an email address.

???@cbp.dhs.gov

Sending emails to CBP is a waste and could be counterproductive. We are developing a strategy and key will be the written and snail mailed comments which become part of the offical record. That will be key going forward.

Knife Rights is re-writing our Model Letter to CBP and we'll post here and to the email list as soon as it is up.

CBP's denial is frustrating, but it's not the end.

I don't think the constant crying and bellyaching about "this administration" is helping anybody, especially the cause at hand.

This is homeland security we're talking about, and their control over US Customs. They were in existence, and were invading privacy, violating rights, and ignoring the constitution before "this administration."

We'd all benefit if folks could keep their political agendas to themselves, and stop getting their partisan jabs in--not to mention talk of succession--out of the issue, especially when it comes to writing your representatives.

Sorry but I have to disagree. They stopped listening because you dont have the sort of money the really wealthy and companies have. You do not buy 300,000 copies of their books or buy them 400 dollar dinners. It was never about intelligence; human beings have always been stupid and always will be.

Look, I know this is ridiculous. A knife is a tool, and NOT a weapon and even automatics are not an exception to this rule. But the people who wants weapons legislation are trying desperately to curb out of control homicide rates, especially in urban environments. They arent doing this to subjugate you, that comes later; much later. Things start with good intentions and then turn sinister.

I would also like to point out that the culture of this country is changing. If the majority of people want guns and knives to go away, you just have to accept it. You arent gauranteed your views being the way things are. If things get to the point where the second amendment is repealed then you will have to give your guns up whether you like it or not, this is your duty as a citizen of this country.

The reason Im with everyone is because I dont think a ban of folding knives is in line with the majority: this isnt our elected body doing this, its a federal agency repealing a lot of established cases in order to restrict knives that going by the law should not be illegal. That is unacceptible and unfortunately with the way agencies work this is likely NOT going to top at just border patrol, customs or assisted openers.

At this point I can only hope that the court battles go in the favor of keeping the current rulings.

PS. thumbs up enderwiggin; its important to keep a calm head and not be political, because some of us crazy liberals are in this on the side of knives too; and I would give up my knives LONG before I would be involved with that sort of thing.

Absolutely ridiculous! I've already sent in my letters and am trying to recruit as many folks as I can to do the same...I'm glad folks like you are around, Doug. We'll need an awful lot of concerted effort to overcome this one. :(

Doug, please do post that here. I cant seem to find a model letter on the AKTI or Kniferights. I want to be able to get this letter out soon as possible.

I guess I am not looking in the right place for it.

Something to point out is it's not all political. Sure some of it is, but I would place most of the blame on society. We've grown away from knives as a tool. Another member here put it aptly saying we live in a "pre-cut society." You can even by cheese presliced. Everything has a little pull tab or corner, packages start to come with a perforation to make it easier to open.

I don't get this.

are they trying to say carrying a knife with a thumb stud over the border is not legal now?

can you ship them to/from canada?

can you carry one at all, even within the US, never mind the border?

please explain.

HA! Try again! Free men own firearms. I'm free and will continue to be so-- in this life and the next. I will never, ever, give up my guns-- so long as I am drawing breath. In fact, I will continue to do whatever I please as long as I am not hurting anyone else, or their property, or infringing on anyone else's rights.

I abide by the laws of God, physics, and common sense-- not by the laws of tyrants.

this is your duty as a citizen of this country.

Are you high, man? :thumbdn:

You really are a socialist.

We're screwed.

Looks like we're gonna soon be back to traditional slipjoints and Spyderco Slip-its.

For sure this is a big deal. I just got this in an email

"AKTI's request for an extension to respond to the proposed ruling has been denied today (June 10). We need you to register your opposition today. Your comments must be received by U.S. Customs via snailmail (emails not permitted) by June 21st (that's a Sunday so plan on getting your response to them by June 20 or earlier). "

I sent my letters. I hope everyone does the same. We have to step up and say something FAST.

The only thing congress understands, is they may be voted out of office.

The only line that will scare them is, "If you do not comply, I will be sure to tell 10 people to tell 10 people what you are doing and to vote for your opponent in the next election."

Sorry but I have to disagree. They stopped listening because you dont have the sort of money the really wealthy and companies have.

No, surely they think we are stupid. When senator feinstein was speaking about the bail out, she said that she received 91,000 calls, and 85,000 of them were OPPOSED to the bail out. She said that "there is a great deal of confusion out there," that 85,000 people are wrong.

That isn't meant to be political; this is just to prove that the government does in fact think we are stupid.

I hope this doesn't happen. I already go nuts at knife laws and this would just set me completely off.

So, are we supposed to right our own, unique individual letters, or are we fine just copying and pasting a "pre-cut" letter and sending it through the mail?

Also, where are we supposed to send these letters?

Thanks,
Mark

The AKTI have pre-written letters right now to send to our senators and representatives. There are small areas for personalization and their website walks you through it all. I think Doug Ritter was saying that they'll be making the 2nd batch pretty soon.

Here's the thread that explains everything:

To Doug: I'll keep an eye out for further instructions on how I can help.

Does it mean there will be no more American made folding knives if this law goes through? no more mx-18s? no more SNGs? no more sebenzas?

Keep in mind that even if this just seems to cover imports it goes much deeper. If a Gov. agency can redefine these knives as switchblades then it will try to stop interstate commerce of them due to federal regulations pertaining to switchblades. This will ultimately result in a huge economic blow and further loss of individual rights. The time to react is now. To sit back and say "oh well the majority wants it" or "I don't see how it affects me" only means you have given up before you even started. Do not seal your fate through apathy. Use your rights and make your voice heard before you can not.

Dianne is the head of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Scary isn't it ?
