Cutting out the middle man

I think you kind of hit on something here, I don't pay any attention to fake sunglasses or purses or whatever else is out there not that I buy a lot of purses but if I did I wouldn't even know what was a clone and what wasn't the passion for the hobby is what makes the difference. If I was gonna buy a purse it would have to have a lot of knife pockets.

I am with you. If I avoid a clone, counterfeit, or "tribute" with most products, its merely out of fear that the quality will be bad.

Like, I wouldn't buy knockoff Nikes, and, honestly, my only reason would be that I was afraid they would fall apart.

But...I don't spend a bunch of time on some athletic shoe discussion site, and know guys who design and make shoes personally, or have had custom one of a kind sneakers made, etc.

I do that with knives...I am into them. So I hold the products and people who make them to a higher legal, and, maybe even more importantly, moral standard.

It's akin to the whole "does it matter to you if a knifemaker is a thief or liar, if he makes good knives?" question. To me, yes.

I'm not trying to say I hold a higher moral ground....it's just that I'm really into knives.

The first video I posted explains it was licensed and more.

I guess this is one of the more persistent myths in the knife community, but I have a couple of vintage AFCK boxes, and they have stickers that state very clearly that the hole is used under license from Spyderco.

Dude, if you get a chance, can you post a picture of those labels? That will be great to have the next time this argument flares up.

My boxes are all packed away in storage so it would be a bit of a pain in the ass to get them. But honestly, if people won't believe video of Sal freakin' Glesser saying "yeah they licensed it from us", they certainly aren't going to believe a box. :)
