good thread fellas. What Dan makes at his price is a working grade, perfectly usable item that can not be purchased at any retail outfit so you still get what you pay for. A handmade, afordably finished custom.

0-1 and kydex aint too fond of each other. Hey, thats a downside to 0-1.....or is that a kydex downside??:D;)

I'd say kydex downside.

I like leather way better. Especially if you are ever going to sell the knife because kydex scratches the blade too bad. :thumbdn: I've pretty much stopped buying kydex sheaths.

Also with a kydex firesteel loop even slight wear on the firesteel will cause the steel to be too loose in the loop:(

That happens with leather too....best solution is to have a short lanyard or elastic cord to slip over the end of the firesteel..."locking" it in place.

I don't make a lot of kydex sheaths nowadays...used to do a lot...but have been moving more and more to leather.

The kydex doesn't seem to bother the regular CPM 3V bushcraft knives....I hit the as-forged blanks with a scotchbrite belt in the same direction that scratches would show up anyway. It's the best finish I've found so far that can resist kydex scratches.

Either way, most kydex scratches can be removed with a course scotchbrite, or even 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Just take it slowly.

But in this case...as Brian Goode I'm sure well knows...kydex and a "surface finish" don't mix well. The as-forged finish on my O1 is surface only. It can definitely be removed....just like an etched finish (which is what I believe Brian is alluding to).

I'm still looking/hunting...for that "wear-resistant" finish for simple carbon steels...

So far....I've only been able to achieve it on the CPM steels.

Dan

Yup Dan.....aint found a wear resistant finish on carbon yet. Leather makes that way less of an issue.

Good thread I think :)

Dan makes me look like an amature - I have 6 bushcrafts waiting for a 1 time pre ordered batch Ill be fiishing maybe in Feb.

Dan hooks you guys up so go use em fellas :)

Man that is one good looking blade...now you just need to go out and scratch that blade up a little. Dan does great work that just seems to fit what a knife is supposed to be.
