OK guys, heres my little review of the DP passaround knife.
First impressions were that it was a good looking knife with its semi satin finish and nicely figured scales. There was a bit of irregularity to the shape of the scales and the grinding on the tang, but its to be expected on a handmade knife and it wouldnt have the same character without it.
I didnt really use the knife the first two days I had it just due to work demands but the third day I carried it all day in my pocket and the thin scales made it a joy for that type of carry.
Blade thickness was just about perfect for a everyday utility type of knife.
I like to prepare a meal with a knife to get a good feel for how it would perform everyday tasks. Unfortunately, I just didnt get the chance to do that. I did take it outside and spend a few minutes with a potato to see how it would slice and dice. It had no problem with either and even with a blade that could have used touch up, sliced paper thin slivers off the tater.
I would have loved to have taken this knife hunting, as I think it would really excel in field dressing chores but timing just wasnt right. I did consider quartering out one of my dogs favorite friends, but guilt would have gotten the best of me, she just loves her sweet fur.
Not to beat a dead horse, and I know Doug has gotten the point by now, But my only real complaint was the shape of scales at the top of the handle. It interfered with the oft used powergrip and created a hotspot on my hand under heavy use.
Just a few pics of the knife with my favorite friend, my ever-present RC-4, for a size comparo.
Great size for EDC if you ask me.
My personal opinion is that Doug did a great job with this knife. It really didnt light my fire until I started using it and it really came alive. Its just a great user, cuts and slices well, comfortable to carry and good looking.
Thanks Tony, youre a mighty generous guy.
