Dagger Progression

Your looking at a pretty penny for a custom 3v dagger. But my question is this. Why that steel for a knife that will never use it to its full potental. But its your money and can have any thing you want as long as you have the funds to back it up

what metal would you suggest??

It will never be used for it's intended purpose but I'd like it to be MORE than adequate for the job if it were ever used.

If you went with 1095 you can prolly get one with a nice hamon on both edges for similar money to one in CPM3v

I charge $50.00-$75.00 extra for CPM 3v

Any good carbon steel with a modest heat treat will be more than adequate. Many swear by 1095 and other simpler steels.

send me a message on the price you think it would cost. in 3v and 10XX

I wanted something done before xmas and I'd love to hear some ideas!

Also I love strider handles....

i love 5160. it makes a very nice blade. you could do somthing out of W2 and that would hold a wicked sharp edge.

people say that but i realy dont know why. is it because it can take abuse and not brake. is it its toughtnes. I hit 58-59 RC so it holds a nice edge. its used in swords alot becaus its very tought when its hardened down to the low 50s RC. Its just an amazing steel and when it's HT corectley it makes a very fine steel for small blades as well. also another thing to think about is that 5160 is one of the most popular steels for makers to use that are taking the JS from the ABS.

You might want to upgrade your membership and go to the for sale forums.
Shop Talk is not a forum that allows commerce. As much as you may wish to order a knife, this is not the right place.

Sounds like buying-and selling to me???

Petah - once again I suggest that you just hang around and get a feel for things around here. You'll be better off if you do.

why would I buy and sell a blade from an unknown maker stacy? I wouldn't make any money... lol

petah, you've stated on another thread that $200 is "out of my price range" for a damascus hunter. What type of price range do you plan on for a dagger?

around the same. But I wanted to do the handle and the finishing of the blade and final sharpening. . . Think custom knife kit. I'm drawing up some images of roughly what
I'd like I love 3v and wnat to make the most of it while wanting it over built still lol.

around the same.

Well, that is what I would characterize as a somewhat obtuse response, leaving your actual budget somewhere between $1 and $199.
I recommend that you post your drawing (with dimensions), and be very specific about your expectations. You mention that you want to finish a 3V blade, which is very difficult to do much of any hand sanding on after heat treat. Thus, you should specify the grit finish at which you expect the blade be delivered. Then, specify any hardware and handle material you desire provided with your "kit", if any. Finally, I suggest you post a minimum you expect to pay for such a "kit" and an email address to conduct business with any interested parties off-forum. This will help avoid wasting anybodys time pursuing "bids" that are beyond either their interests or your price range.

Here it is. Similar to the Ek yes but I want to be able to take more advantage of the strength of the 3v. and I want to do some file work of the back for my thumb and the handle is going to be more of a strider type. like I mentioned before I'd loe to be able to hammer it into a tree (I want a strong tip)

((As for price I don't see why I should set anything It's a dead simple design as I have been told my many people. If I said 400 i bet everyone would say they'd do it for 400... If is said my max was 1000 same deal. ))

Love to hear from you guys (excuse my netiquette after years of playing CS and the like I find it hard to be polite to people online who I do not know)
