Dagger Progression

let me clarify, I say able to hammer into a tree loosely. I use a hyperbole wrong here (too many knifetests.com). I'd never thrust it into a tree! It's a dream knife here! Cryo is not a requirement, but if it can be done I'd happily get it done. that said, I'd like a knife that stab a few hundred zombies and not break/chip/bend and still be razor sharp. haha.

This knife will be a paper weight in my office. It will be rare for it to attack anything other than a paper product maybe the occasional accidental finger cut.

so it's up to the maker to get acryo if they see fit..

still waiting on a definite taker on this. I Have funds in PP ready for a deposit. and 100 was just a starting price remember...

Butch works with quite a bit of 3V, so he would be a great guy to talk to, I was hoping he'd jump in.

For what it's worth Butch, I was also speaking from a rough blank standpoint and I got the same price range Mike did off AKS. In addition, Petah has told me he'd be willing to commission his own HT and Cryo. I didn't mention it because I don't think it's in the thread and I think ~$100 is a very fair price for a rough blank including heat treat. 1095 or 5160 would be making a killing for that sort of work.

I also forgot to add. If need be I will:
-Buy the steel and have it shipped to the maker
-If you help me with the finalized dimensions I'll get it water jetted (so I just need a grind and HT)

what kind of thickness off steel are you planning and how much tip[ strength are you really going to need (if your going to "C Stamp" the knife i ll just leave it full thickness so you cant brake the tip off)

also so you know there will be no file working the blade after the heat treat. the steel is air hardening so the tang like the blade will be hard any "file working " would need done with cut off disc and dremmel stones

hm. I have all that equipment.. cut off wheels etc (my uncle has a Huge machine shop) but That seems a lot. I was going to put some grooves on the back for my thumb.

For the tip? I'm going to let you decide I still want great penetration power/depth. I was thinking 1/4 inch thick for the steel but this is just a guess. Is that too much or too little? I really do not know the answer I'll let you decide. Your experience should dictate what happens.

Petah - I spoke with my friend and mentor Alan Folts and he said he could probably do this for you. I don't want to edge out Butch, but if he doesn't want to do it or doesn't have the time, let me know and I'll get you his email address.

Alrighty, I was Thinking that 3V master was doing do it, He asked/sent a few mails on the details. Nothing concrete (not enough to warrant a contract) Butch if you are listening I have $$$$ waiting for you if you are making it ;) just a little update? If you are busy thats fine I can wait but I'd like to know.

Thanks

i would think that 3/16 thick should work
maybe 1.25 inch wide bar stock would work i dont think it would be as extreme as the 3v dagger im working on right now
the blade is just over 1.5 inch at the wide spot and right on 1.5 where the tang and plunge meet
the blade+tang length is 8.25 inch
OO and the stock thickness is .270

You have to be patient. He replied to this thread and it's obvious that he can make a nice blade.

That is a beauty of a knife! (your Nickle San Mai) I really love the lines on it. I have a pic on my computer of it. I can see the same design in my head with ivory handles gold wire inlays.... mmmm. Honestly one of the best EDC's I have seen
