Great WIP but for me the most impressive is the steel. Man, that "swirled" damascus is amazing and very cool.:thumbup:

I really enjoyed this WIP thread. The detailed steps help someone understand what is involved. And, a beautiful knife to boot.

What pattern is that Burt? Firestorm?

Well, if I were coming up with a name, I'd call it 30/16, 6-bar alternating twisted "W". That doesn't roll off the tongue all that easily, though. Or, I could call it "1453". Ok, follow me on this... It's a "Turkish" twisted "firestorm." Now Constantinople (now called Istanbul) was attacked in 1453 by the Turks. So in 1453 there was a "Turkish firestorm". Kinda clever, but also hard to remember.

Jerry Fisk would call it "My night in the sanitarium" or something catchy like that. Maybe I should go that direction. What do you think?

You can't make any Constantinople references unless you forged the billet by laying on a section of stone wall and dropping a huge stone cannonball on it:D I was wondering the same thing because it looks like you made the individual bars just like firestorm and then welded them up Turkish style. How would you do that on a blade that didn't have the "cleaver" profile? Would you grind a taper into the ends and then forge them together to a point?

I'm not too smart, so I'll just call it AWESOME:thumbup:.

That's a monster knife!!! Seeing the process that goes into creating it just adds to the majesty. Thanks for sharing!

Burt

That is a beautiful finished piece. Thank you for taking the time to do such an informative WIP. Give our thanks for the photographer too.

Burt fantastic knife great photos and just a way cool thing to do going to all this trouble just for us.. Thanks so much

I'd weld up the billet the same, except when it's done and you have a rectangular bar, you forge the point down, same as you'd do on a regular flat bar. That would sqeuuze all the bars together and make them all converge right at the point.

Bodacious hunk o' knife! That is beautiful piece man, and not to sound redundant, but thanks for the over the shoulder view. You were very generous with your time and talent, and for a new-b, that's gold! Keep them fires hot!

Absolutely unbelievable. Flawless! Not only is that a fantastic knife but that sheath is sooo precise in a medium that fights back.:) You never cease to amaze me with your work.

I think you just set the standard for WIP threads, thank you for your time and effort, Burt.
Incredible Camp Knife.
