Thanks for everyone's interest in my work.
I'm still not quite ready to get rolling with more ring orders. The shop is still a horrendous mess and I've been a bit hammered with work.
I don't do this for a living, and work full time, so shop time can be pretty sparse. More often than not I'm restricted to just weekends. And, I do still try to make knives and thats where my pasion truly lies. I don't want to over commit myself with these rings and have them take over. Unfortunately they can get tedious pretty quickly and I sometimes need a break from doing them.
Additionally, I have to be careful with these rings as there is enough interest in them that they can very quickly get out of hand and overwhelm me. Its great to have that kind of demand, but its also a double edged sword.
I don't think I will be doing any long term wait lists for these rings. I did in the past and it turned into a nightmare. A knife comission came in, couldn't make new billet for a month or so, huge number of people wanted on the list, and when the time came, lots of waiting for responses, sizes, most didn't ever get back to me, new people comming in with everything ready to go and not wanting to take their order out of respect for those on the list, etc. So after the orginizational headache that caused, I don't think I'll be going back to that.
I think the only sort of list I will have is a list with just enough slots open for what billet I have on hand. Once those slots are filled, no additional wait list will be offered. Instead of a waitlist I think I will setup a mailing list and send out a mass email to those on the mailing list when new billet becomes available, then it would be first come first serve for the new billets. I think thats about the only way I can have any hope of managing things.
I also want to "scale back" my ring production to maybe 5 a month or so. Anything much more than that burns me out.
Give me a couple more weeks and I'll get things in order and will post updates here and on my website.
Thanks folks.
