Damn I Got Lyme Disease!!!

DON'T FK AROUND. i had it, and it combined with antibiotic resistant staph and a few unknown nasties. They almost amputated my leg from the knee down, just to keep me alive. I was on IV antibiotics for a full 8 weeks. Look these meds up, its almost like chemo. Vancomiacin, Sephtriaxone. I had blood and tissue samples sent to the CDC and Yale, and to this day they have no idea what got it so bad. FINISH YOUR PILLS ON TIME, AND ALL OF THEM. Also, watch for pain in the major joints, that's where it likes to settle.

Here is an example of what it can do to you. If you are a football fan, you may remember Wyatt Sexton who was a QB at Florida State a few years ago. He caught Lyme Disease and it progressed to very serious before it was identified. This is what led to it being identified. It can mess you up pretty good.

"On June 14, the 20-year-old Sexton was doused by pepper spray and taken to a hospital after he was found lying in the street and identifying himself as God. His parents released a statement two days later that said drug abuse was not the problem."

Don't screw around with this. Advanced Lyme can be debilitating. Get treated properly.

I've heard on a few occasions that if you remove the tick before 24 hours that the chance of it passing anything to you is small.

Is that hogwash? I mean, it's head is stuck in your skin. If it can throw up tomorrow when you try to pull it out, there's no reason it can't in the first 24 hours right?

I don't think its relevant how long its on you. Avoid getting them on you if at all possible, and you won't have to worry about it. To this day, i hat wearing shorts because every leag or blade of grass brushing against my leg feels like some insect landing on me.

We're you diagnosed with Lyme Disease by a Doctor, was there a positive test of some sort?

My wifes been fighting similar symptons to Lyme disease but all tests come back neg., I've also heard that there are hundreds of different tests for different strains and a positive diagnosis by testing is rare.

One last thing we've heard is if you take the course of antibiotic treatment and you don't have Lyme, the treatment can be detremental to your future ability to fight off other diseases.

My wife's been dibillitated by something she's been told it's a combo of rheumatoid and osteo arthritis, fibro myalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, if you look up the symptons of all these diseases they are all very similar.

She's had a low grade fever for over 2 years and no one can explain why, they call it, "fevers of unknown origin" what kind of crap is that?

Sorry for ranting I'm just frustrated. :(

TE, Your wife should probably see a true lyme disease specialist. There are a huge number of varieties and the common tests only cover a few of them. It is extremely common to get false-negatives when you are tested for lyme disease. I've heard of several cases like that and saw one on TV recently. The doctors all thought this guy was a hypochondriac up to the point where he almost died. Finally he got to a specialist who cured him.

It is bad to have a disease that gives you such a huge variety and quantity of symptoms. The doctors get frustrated and decide you have an anxiety disorder. A friend of mine had that happen. One day her doctor was out and she saw his partner. He read her history and talked to her and figured out that she had Cushings disease (a tumor enlarging the pituitary). It is extremely rare, but her bewildering range of symptoms fit the textbook case. The trick was that her own doctor had been presented by symptoms one after one and hadn't seen the big picture. The new doctor saw them all at once and it just clicked. She's had surgery twice now and is doing much better, but she still is nowhere near normal.

no tests were done on me

i was/am still in the earliest stages with the giant red spot, the tick bite in the middle still visible. my story that i have seen the ticks and where i stayed, in a forest with deer was considered sufficient for diagnosis.
