Damn you BladeForums

The most I've ever spent on a knife was $80 (Esee 4). It is possible to be a knife nut, but limit yourself to a sub-$100 budget. Though that is clearly the exception to the rule around here.

Seem the more you have the easier it is to shell out for more expensive blades.

Yea I did the same when I got into knives a couple years ago. I started off buying a bunch of 100-200$ spydies ZT and Bms. Got a CRK just to see what the fuss was about. Ended up selling everything but my 940 and a couple cheaper knives.

I really settled into what works for me. Although some of the other knives looked way cool and were super nice, I really came full circle and settled back into the lower-mid price for value and function. I found out for me personally that there is diminishing returns after 200-250ish. And great stuff to be had in the mid 100s.

Ah, you love it and you know it! Besides, with the rest of us around here, you can always sell off old knives to fund new knives... SO stick around, brother!

If you stick around here, it will get worse. But I have to admit your purchases are near my top end for folders. Took me years to talk myself into that price level. I still think a $100 knife is expensive. But, if you can afford it and it doesn't squeeze the household budget, go for it.

Hmmm. I'm torn now.

No, no. Not about whether or not to stick around here.

Whether or not to get a Spyderco Domino or a LionSteel TRE G10...

:D I'm hooked, and staying, for good.

I found I stopped buying as many knives and getting into this hobby as much once I got into a long term relationship. So my advice to all of you who want to save your money from buying knives get a girlfriend/wife. Than again I bought her a knife and the stuff to keep it sharp for our 1 year anniversary and her eyes lit up upon opening the box containing the knife. And she wants me to teach her how to sharpen just like me as I went a little overboard for trying to master sharpening and can obtain some stupidly sharp knives. So that idea may have backfired....

On second thought, just ignore what I said.

Your story somewhat mirrors mine. Wanted to replace my cheap, cheap, cheap shitty Gerber Evo with something solid that would last me years upon years. Smash-cut to me buying high-price Mcusta and a $140 Spyderco 8 months later. To quote one of my favorite songs:

"Die young and save yourself."

It's a deep hole you are falling into.

I had an old smith and wesson knife my dad bought for me when I was maybe 13-14 (still have it) and I had bought a spring assisted knife at a flea market and that had broke. First knife I bought that was expensive was a CRKT nirk tighe 2. LOVED that knife for the longest time, almost wish I still had it. Bought my dad a Nirk tighe for a present and he eventually bought the smaller one I had off me and he now has both in his small collection. Someday I'll inherit those and they will never leave my possession.

I'm thinking about ordering a Brous VR-17 G10 and getting custom micarta scales done for it.

I'm officially really, really sick. I got two new knives the last week (totaling 250) and now I'm thinking about another $220 knife...

At least I'm not looking at the CF version, at $400 a pop.

I think of it this way, any electronic item I buy nowadays has a quick shelf life - PC parts, upgrading phone. A good knife, just like other tools will last a lifetime. Check out the FS/T forum if you have any regrets.. sorry I'm not helping :D

But seriously, I started out with a $60 Endura and had that for over a decade. A few years here at BF its kind of scary how much I am willing to spend on one knife ($300 is easy). Though I learned a lot and this community is awesome!

Hey, listen, if you can afford it, then it's not an issue, IMHO. There are a lot worse things you could spend your money on, and good quality blades hold their values pretty well (and even go up in some cases). Consider it part practical, part hobby, and part investment. Plus, you can get (at least) close to what you paid for them if you need to sell one to pay bills or fund another blade. So it's all good.

That's what MY rationalizer says!

of course I could be saving for a down payment on a house or putting money in the stock market or something...not as fun...

Yep, you came to the wrong forum if you're looking to save money or avoid buying more knives.

You will find no larger group of enablers than the membership of Bladeforums. :D

The guys over on Badger & Blade will give us a run for our money, but unfortunately for them there is a limit to how many times you can shave in a day. Than there are the people over on Head-Fi and they were some enabling audiophiles to say the least and well lets just say that they are able to make our customs look cheap sometimes. In fact they had a saying over there "Welcome to Head-Fi, I feel sorry for your wallet."

Yup pick your poison I know of 3 awesomely addictive flavors with a great community. They are knives, razors, and headphones, or do a combo. You can be the the best shaved knife wielding audiophile that this planet has ever seen

It could be prostitutes and booze!

Or it could be college tuition...

Or it could be in your bank account. Get some knives you like, stop, look, and listen.... use them. Then think about more later and in the meantime, maybe your bank account will be growing a bit.

Ha-ha! I'm a member on Head-fi, here, and a shaving forum.

Off topic, if you guys haven't tried shaving with a double edged safety razor before, go get one. It has changed my young, 19 year old life.

Bladeforums, you have struck again. Reate District 9-A hitched a ride home from Blade HQ today...
