Dan Koster for the bad.

It would be interested to hear who do you guys think can offer better service in 3V knives?

I am not comparing the following companies to Dan, or trying to direct business away from Dan (I want Dan to succeed). I am merely pointing you to some 3V products in case you do not know of them. Fehrman makes superb 3V knives and Bark River also makes a few limited runs of some of their models in 3V.

I tried to buy a knife from Dan a year back. I was first to post "I'll take it" in the thread, but when I got no response, and saw another later poster get the blade, I was a bit put off.
I have not even opened a thread of his regarding a knife for sale since, and won't. In 2010, I spent over $4K on custom knives. A drop in the bucket compared to a serious knife purchaser, but still, it wasn't chump change. I'm ahead of that so far in 2011. Not a dime will go to Dan though.

Thanks. I knew about Fehrman but it is the first time I hear that Bark Rivers are making knives in 3V. I will check them out.

Bark river does have some nice stuff in 3v, i have an orange handled Canadian with mosaic pins in the mail right now. There price point is in lower than dans stuff but Im pretty sure its a production shop type outfit so the fitting and grinding should be slightly less quality. However I dont know if I would notice the difference since anything im buying in 3v is to be a user and after a short workout a flawlessly fitted knife and a factory knife might look identical. Ferman makes great blades just a little to thick for my food prep and skinning needs and I dont really baton that much because I always have a smaller knife and some axe.

I forgot, the Skookum Bush Tool is also available in 3V. My absolute favorite knife in that size. I have not found anything that cuts as effortlessly. I have the Bark River Liten Bror in 3V and it is also a wicked little cutter.

For reference, here are the Skookums and Bark Rivers with some Kosters. I think most (if not all) of these Bark Rivers are available in 3V.

Apologies for perpetuating the off-topic thread-drift.

The Fehrman Survival series is generally about .25 thick but the Utility series is thinner - not slicer thin but relatively thin.

The Final Judgement (2nd from left) is from the Survival series and is .25 thick.

The Shadow Scout (between the BK2 and 119) is from the Utility series and is .19 (3/16") thick.

Apologies again for the off topic - I just wanted to answer the 3V question. Perhaps a new 3V thread in General would be appropriate for further discussion.

Since this has been resolved to the OP's satisfaction, I'm closing the thread.

No need to continue.
