Dark ops for real?

Master Shiva KI here, Take it from me, the best blades for the money are, hands down, Cold Steel. Their black blades, S30V and their swords are a flat
out steal, and they cut aggressively. Get them while you can, can`t go wrong.

Master Shiva Ki

Their swords are a steal but it's still up in the air about who is doing the stealing. There have been disturbing reports of late about blade failures on several of their European models. Reports have been pretty good on the katana.

Wow, for a couple of "moderators" the response to Shiva Ki shows some lacking in the knifemaking history area. Master Shiva Ki was the maker of some very desireable knives a long time ago, and has just had a resurgance in interest in his work.

nyeti, moderators are not chosen on the basis of a knowledge of knife making history, human relations skills, or even intelligence. We share an interest in knives, a respect for the Bladeforums community, and a willingness to do what we can to keep the forums running smoothly. There are days this is easier to do than others. :D

There are many knife makers out there, past and present, and a few up-and-coming. Some get a lot of coverage on the forums and some do not, often unrelated to their skills. When is the last time you saw a thread on Ray Appleton?

My thanks to those who pointed out Master Shiva Ki's accomplishments. His knives are extremely impressive. He did come on a little strong, though. Sometimes that's all it takes to set us off. :p

Codes reply to Shiva Ki was uncalled for. All he did was express his opinion. I'm not trying to get anything started here, but that was a little offensive. Especially if it is really Master Siva Ki. His knives are, from all reports I've read, some of the best you will ever find. Their documented abilities and "magic" bring memories of the old Richtig knives.

I know exactly where Code3 was coming from. He deals with mall ninjas and armchair commandos on here day in and day out. Someone signs up with the name "Master" something or another and is giving advise out about swords and such, you can't help but think this is just another pud. The chances of the guy being a real "Master" is usually pretty slim. In this case it was a legit artist. So I don't think that Master Siva Ki deserved the reply per say, but the person I believe Code 3 thought he was refering to (Mall Ninja) did.

Make any sense?

Hey, look! A new comedian!

Just what the hell are you a 'Master' at, pal? Stupidity?

Go back to the mall, idiot. They need your services there. Check out back by the dumpster for your contact. He's wearing some 5.11's.

Really moderate for a moderator

Has anyone seen a Dark OPS knife yet? I have run into people who have ordered one and have yet to receive it. This company needs to put some blades on the street if they exist. I have seen the ads for the past 4 month and have yet to see a single knife.

I want one to play with here in the sandbox, it might handle hydraulic fluid OK, but lets see how it stands up to use in the desert. :D

Of course not. These are covert knives. You never see them until it's to late. They use the same technology as the black helicopters... captured alien technology perfected at Area 51, you know. :D

That was sort of my point. I am the first to call a wannabe mall ninja on being just that, but you would maybe expect a moderator to do a little research before he jumps that hard on a guy who has been in this game for a very long time. I remember just dying to own a Shiva Ki knife from the first time I saw one as a very young man. I now own four and they are definately a piece of history from days long gone. They are so lively and disturbingly sharp. What they lack in the "gee wiz" factor that is epitomized with the "Dark Ops" type of thing they make up in what is really important, character, and feel with a sort of rustic air that is lost on the current purveyors of cutlery and their ilk that generally populate "the other forum".

I sort of thought the same as Code3 at first, as I'm not real fond of the CS marketing hype.
I went and searched out Shiva Ki's site, and then posted the link to it, so others could make up their own minds.
I can see that the Mods do a good job for the most part, but sometimes there is much for them to oversee that research might not happen.
Not everyone is knowledgeable on all the knifemakers out there, especially those who have not been seen in recent publications or discussions.

He is my $64 question. What in the blue h*ll is "Samurai Steel"? It must be good because is sure adds to the price of the blade.

all this Dork-Ops bullcrap is only here to shift attention to Extrema Ratio. this whole thing is simply a semi-genius marketing ploy by the people behind ER to get their knives to be known and sold better, and the Dork Ops-thing make ER seem like a really cool quality brand that is being "shamelessly copied".......because "ER is so cool and perfect".

Extrema Ratio is a joke, their knives are crap and overpriced and overhyped as being the ultimate tactical army knives. Strider and TOPS are amongst THE actual tactical brands and brands like MastersOfDefense and Mercworx both tried to catch up with that. the seem is happening to Extrema Ratio, they want to be just a cool as Strider, but they're knives are crap stuff from Italy and nobody is really buying their current marketing.

so what do they do? yes, they create Dork Ops to market ER. it's all a conspiracy i tell ya!

Interesting theory.

If so, it may very well be the most expensive sales campaign is the history of the knife industry.

Dark Ops had a huge booth at Bladeshow. They paid extra to have their banners flying and posters up throughout the show. The booth was elaborate and highly professional. They staffed it with probably eight or ten people who I presume were all flown to Atlanta and accomodated and fed in Atlanta for four or five days.

They've been running full-page, premium-placement ads in all the magazines for six or eight months now.

They have elaborate printed catalogs.

They have a very professionally-produced website.

I'm told they had a big booth at Bladeshow West. That's a less-expensive show, but tradeshow attendance is always expensive.

And now they're promissing what I have to presume if they're going to be giving combative demonstrations in it will be a big booth at Shot Show which is a very expensive show to exhibit at.

They've burned a huge amount of money.

It's a pitty that all of that money couldn't have been spent actually developing good knives.
