DARK OPS Pics. PLEASE!!!!!

I spoke with Frank this morning. He said the catalog arrived today and they'll be sending them out. The bad thing is that there are no pictures in the catalog. The pictures will be coming in a seperate catalog.

You would think they would have at least brought along the prototypes we're to assume they've been testing -- you know, the ones they used in real-life field tests to get those blood grooves just right. Or at least some videos demonstrating that this miracle mystery steel is "basically indestructible."

Sadly, it leaves one wondering if there's been any testing done at all, other than playing around with different designs to develop something they think looks cool, and will appeal to all the mall ninjas and other armchair operatives out there.

I dont care what anyone says, they had sense enough to have a pretty girl work the booth at blade :D

Yes....I demand indepth deanimation testing. Otherwise how am I to be sure it can deanimate everything I need deanimated without some residual animation left in whatever I was trying to deanimate.

And furthermore I have been waiting centuries for a blood groove that will enhance the spraying of fluids while I am deanimating. Because, lemme tell you, I spray fluids everywhere during deanimation. In fact even when I am not deanimating at all, fluids everywhere. Anything that can make my fluid-spray better durring deanimation would be fantastic, even if it just a mild deanimated fluid spray improvment.

I am spraying fluid now just thinking about deanimating.

Skinwalker - if the whole "DarkOps" thing is indeed a parody, I couldn't think of a better testimonial to include on that site than the above quote from you. Frickin' brilliant :D

Skinwalker, you've got all the same great information we do about what these knives are like -- could you do a reasonable facsimile of what they might look like ??? :D

No BudK clones, though ... :(

Seems that at blade the knives were supposed to meet them VIA fedex after finishing up at a shoot for the catalog but the coating on them contained something that set off a chemical detector at FedEx and were held up with FedEx not shipping them, they were then transfered to UPS but still did not make it in time for the show. That is what I was told by 2 Different people working their booth (I had to stop 2x to check the girl out :) ) One guy I talked to was the company's Attorney he said, I would hate to think I needed to travel with my Attorney when I go to shows.......

It would have to suck to spend the money for advertising then for the booth and the booth setup and then have you product not show, this could happen to anyone doing a show. It maybe FedEx's fault it may be bad planning on the company's fault but either way it would just suck.

The Bladeshape is utility...or at least utility for deanimation purposes.

we got the "RaptorLokTM , a self cleansing double talon locking system "
Since no info was given I had to gues what a raptor lock was...a raptor claw wich might grip the thumbstuds holding the blade open using the "entire length of the knife"

we got the "Quartz impregnated inserts provide extreme circumstances grip enhancement and are replaceable should decontamination be required."

we got the ever popular "Strategically placed blood grooves control blood spray in covert deanimation activities.":
but I hear they are effective in non-covert deanimation as well...good news.

..............

Just wanna say, I dont mean to be knockin on Frank. I havent ever delt with him but I read some of his posts and he seemed to be great with providing customer service for ER. It just....well....the hype he has lumped onto this new line kinda lends itself to be made fun of. But not out of malice....all in good fun.

Well,
I was going to write a personal reply to those naysayers, in rebuttal to some comments made about DOK's, but instead decided to go this route.

I talked to Frank an hour ago. He is still in Atlanta. Frank told me that the knives shipped to the show for his booth had been stolen, as well, another well known makers prototypes were stolen from a shipment to the show where the box arrived empty as well.

It appears Frank is not the only victim here of the same crime, at the same show, though there is no indication the two are related that I'm aware of at this time. Having talked to Frank ocassionally over the last year, I was aware of the time and effort and commitment he has put into getting his new company up and running in a very short time span and being ready for blade this year to kick off the new knives.

It didn't happen as Frank had planned. He spent considerable money to be at Blade this year, to get the proto's designed, made, and ready for the show was no easy task in the few months he had to do so. The advertising which usually runs 6 month in advance in the rags would never have made the stands in time for Blade if he had not pushed hard to get them in there in time. I don't know how he got the time lead down to a few short months but at the very least it does show a commitment on his part to be ready for Blade with the new knives, whatever it took to do so.

I would hope no one would be so naieve as to think a man would spend the funds to accomplish all this in short order [ create a new knife company thats viable within a year ] which normally would take twice or three times that time frame normally.

Has the advertising worked? I think so from some of the comments here. Did they [ the ads ] not get you interested, even facisously [ spelling ? ]? They brought attention to the new line, perhaps outragiously aggressive in wording and content [ as I have not seen any of the ads spoken of personally per se ], but they did draw the attention to people who had never heard of the knives in the ads as well as the people who frequent these and other boards relative knives.

My own understanding, which Imay have misenterpretted so take it with a grain of salt here, is that Franks line of knives will at least have some similiarity on their design, strength, and function with some in the line he was previously associated with as well as a whole new lineup.

If some are representative of the MPC and the Nemesis, etc and are upgraded from his understanding of the peoples wants in improvements over the previous line he was involed with, I can't wait to get my hands on one.

I carried the MPC for quite awhile as a secondary as I felt it was a folding prybar with an edge and would make an excellent rescue tool, survival folder with the glass breaker and strength of the knifes materials used. Unlike any other I have ever seen for strength IMO, especially with the secondary passive cross bolt engaged.

I want one like that from Franks line. I think I can appreciate the upgrades which were incorporated, in no small part, from peoples opinions/suggestions here and elsewhere. Frank monitored the lines knives and listened to his customers. Now he is out on his own, with a brand new company and line of knives.

If the knives are everything I expect they will be, or more so, I'm going to be very happy. Myself, Frank could advertise them with outrageously funny ads, total hyperbole of nonsense and BS, I won't care what the advertising says to catch the attention of the buying market to a new line of knives, I happily plunk down the money if the knife is as strong, well built, of quality materials as I believe they will be.

Will Frank have growing pains, anyone who doesn't believe he should is not a businessman or ever started a new company. If we look at other companies, well established for years, decades, we see they all have growing pains at times. Some with QC issues, others with their service dept's, etc etc. To think Frank will escape any of that, well, it would be unrealistic at best.

I did find out one of the knives in the lineup is gong to be a knife designed by a USNSeal over a year ago where frank was asked to execute the design and have input into the project. That indirectly led to Frank seeing his way clear to making a new start within the industry. A giant step for anyone, and lots of upstart monies needed. A committment on his part to take the risk of utter failure with the potential for great rewards.

Frank suffered at Blade, not by his own hand or design from his accounts to me, but by thieves, who also hit another vendor [ no I'm not going to mention the name, thats his business and not ours, though I know the man and will probably learn of it sooner or later when we speak next ].

All the ribbing about the ads, the outrageous claims of design features, etc. etc. He got you to look at the ads and you were anxious to see the new line at Blade. Some would have been to his table just because they have a repore with him from the last venture and line of knives, know Frank to be a man who stands behind someone elses product even when the company he represents will not do so to that measure, and think of him as forthright and honest. More importantly, even before he started his own line, he was committed to customer satisfaction, and that bodes well of for his new line as that reputation precedes him.

I wish him well in the arena of knives. Time will tell if the product is what it is purported to be. In the meantime, I'll be patient and wait to get my hands on one. I don't expect I'll be disappointed, and if I am, at least I'll have waited to physically handle one before I attempt to ridicule a man who took the giant step off the porch and decided to run with the big dogs.

Good luck Frank

"Quartz impregnated inserts provide extreme circumstances grip enhancement and are replaceable should decontamination be required."

Also known as skateboard tape.

It all seems pretty amateurish to me....the "only" prototypes should always be in checked baggage or hand carried. All of the blurry knife pictures in the booth seemed to be that of Extrema ratio models taken at distorting angles.

From the SureFire website
This is the new SureFire Nitrolon 8X Flashlight, constructed of a nearly indestructible aramid composite polymer, and unequaled in cost-effective performance.

Fom DarkOps
The handle is made of a low-durometer high tensile aramid composite that is impervious to everything from aviation fuel to Al Qaeda bodily fluids"

Sounds suspiciously like plastic. hmmmmm...

Maybe these knives will rock, maybe not, but that ad copy is designed to appeal to 12 year old boys who think it's a shame that they don't make Rambo movies any more.
i thought their booth was a blackhawk booth when i first saw it, looks like the same guy designed it

did not care much for the racial innuendos. might as well call them ....

Ecmouse,

I didn't see any racial innuendos. There was one organization mentioned. You may know them from their massacre of thousands of people three years ago or from their countless murders before and after said massacre. Yes, at this time, it's believed that all of the members of said organization have a similar metaphysical view of existence, but each and every race under the sun has folks who worship that religion and has folks who belong to the organization which is portrayed as people in need of dying.

Al-Quaeda is a terrorist organization, not a race or group of similar races.

I agree that Frank is a great guy and I hope they get their act together. We don't understand why you spend that kind of money on full page ads in Blade magazine and not even show pictures of your knives in the ads. I heard different excuses depending on who you talked to in their booth so I have no idea what really happened. I sincerely doubt that you entrust UPS or Fedex to shipping your knives to the show when there is that much money riding on it. It was probably a simple case where the knives just weren't ready from the manufacturer in time - tough break for them if this is the case. However, based on the quality of Frank's other venture - Extrema Ratio - I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on these until we get a chance to handle them. I really would like to see pics so if anyone out there does have any it would be great to see them.

These kinds of ads from any maker make it very hard to overcome the bad image that most people have of knife nuts.

Gee, Mark, just when we were all having fun...

Seriously, though, if I were on the stand defending myself after using one of these knives to fight off some sort of low-life cretin, the last thing I would want is the prosecutor whipping out his printed out copy of the corporate web site.
