Darn you BRKT!!!

It is Sandvik SC27 stainless steel @ 58 rc. I checked it out on knifeforums. I have several of these steels and they are phenomenal. Throw sparks no problem. Amazing edgeholding, and strong... CRK and other companies are jumping on this steel for alot of their new models because of its performance...

Just need an angular spine or notched spine work to be efficient for sparks like most steels.... I worry more about the coating being in the way of the ferro rod.

No matter, it being stainless means the coating is unnecessary and can be stripped... That's why I'm getting 2!!!!;)

I read through Mikes whole post and the Sharpshooter leather sheath with fit both the Bravo Necker AND the RAT Izula! Looks like a great blade. Mike said the powder coating was chosen to keep the retail cost down. It's more expensive to finish the rest of the blade. I might have to tap the piggy bank for one of these :)

$69 for the knife + $50 for the slabs...are you kidding me...:( too much for me....

Going against the grain here, but while Bark River has a lot of great knife designs this isn't one of them IMO. Just does nothing for me, and that leather sheath is an abomination. :thumbdn:

Put my order in :) The leather sheath looks pretty innovative. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

So wait, On the KSF site it says "Here are the samples of the colors before the blades went to be ground". Does the colour only remain on the handle and on part of the spine as shown on the black model then? If so, I like that, and I seem to be unable to turn down any small fixed blade these days!

yup! no more darn slowed cuttin' performance. pair that with a convexed Bark River edge, and you've got some cuttin' horsepower!

The coating is on there for looks and to reduce the cost of the knife. The spine of the knife from the jimping forward is polished so there is no coating on the top. It was done specifically so it would work without modification with a firesteel.

I don't have one in hand yet, but that was the plan anyway. :)

Why is the sheath so bulky at the top by the handles? Does the leather flaps opposite the firesteel-holder serve any purpose?

That's the ugliest leather sheath I've ever seen :barf: The knife looks pretty nice and Bark River's 12C27 performs very well

It assists in drawing the knife. Push on the tab and the knife is out of the sheath.

Got mine ordered already. Can't wait.

The reason it is so bulky is because the interior part of the sheath locks into the grooves allowing positive retention on the knife until you push on the "bulky" flaps freeing the knife

From what I have seen it is a very slick design and IMHO a very good looking and well thought out sheath
