Darrel Ralph knives

I've been looking at DDR recently. I like the torpedo blade Gunhammer. It reminds me of the ZT 0200, only with all the things I don't like fixed.

He makes one in his mid-tech HTM line up as well if you're tight on funds.

Here are my crappy pics of my new HTM Gunhammer with Torpedo Blade. Took one next to a BM710 for size comparisons and one in my right hand. I have average size hands so the knife may be a tad small if you have bear claws.

Question: This is my first flipper and I noticed straight out of the box the frame lock didn't seem to catch all the way even after a full-force flip. I could break the lock with about 2lbs of force. After flipping it for a few minutes it seems to seat enough to where I cannot break the lock but still seems like it's just flirting with the edge of the frame lock. Is this break-in period normal of should I send it back to have Mr. Ralph shave off a little steel? But over than that I am very pleased!

i think you should send it back for an exchange or tune up, early lockup is one thing, but thats too early. i had that problem with a beretta harsey, which i got a refund on.it barely locked at all.that bad lockup can be dangerous....

That Tiger Maze is SWEET. I'm not sure if it is a word or term but I'm going to call that functional art. That is fine work right there. Congrats.

It seems to be seating a lot better now after working the knife a bit. I cannot break the lock now.

Darrel called me and said that there is a break-in period and that he personally handles every knife trying to predict how they will break-in. He said if it's still a problem he'd fix it no questions.

i recently got one of those htm gunhammers as well, they are awesome knives. i also got the torpedo blade one, mine is assisted though.

while my knives are older examples of his work ( a maxx 5.5" stillette and a maxx 4" talonite spear point) darrel makes great stuff, i like a lot of his new designs too, my 4" talonite maxx exhibits some of the very best F&F of any knife i have ever seen or handled, really, its as close to being perfect of anything i have ever seen, bar none, not a flaw to be seen.

Nice old school DDRs, 92Degrees!

I used to own a 3" Apogee, with CF scales over thick Ti frame, with peek-a-boo windows in the CF showing nuggetized anodized Ti.

Miss that little knife.:(

I've always wanted another DDR, but need to start saving up.

I own 2 DDR's currently with another I have been expecting for 14 months. His fit and finish is exceptional. As is, I found the need to mod them a bit to suit my needs.

There's some pics of my HD Maxx here:

I also have an ancient bowie Maxx 5.5" in D2, with faint letters DDR stamped into the blade. Hollow ground on a 8" wheel. Its currently getting a spa treatment at Darrel's.

The Hd Maxx is with Reese getting the clip lowered so I have a good waving grip. He's also going to smooth up the 3D inlay.

CM,
I hope you got the knife that way you like it now.

Not to highjack the thread, but I stopped by your booth on Saturday at Blade. You were out walking around the show, but I meant to ask if you had plans on making titanium scales for the HTM line. To my surprise, the guy working the booth mentioned you were toying with the idea. If you do make them available for the HTM line, would it be possible to send in existing knives to get the titanium scales installed?

To answer sierra's question, early lockup seems normal for the HTM knives. When I first got my HTM GH2 in bowie in early February, the lockup was early as well. It's since seated a bit more and is locking up at about 50% of the lock bar.
