David Beck W.S.K. vs. TOPs "TRACKER" round #1

No I don't own any ridiculous (not rediculous) knives. Actually I don't own many knives, a broken Frosts Clipper, and a KJ Eriksson mora, and a few small Swiss Army Knives. But I actually do have a couple pictures that have the TOPS and the Beck knives together.

i can't tell you how much i appreciate you correcting my spelling mistakes. i think everyone who posts on messageboards will join together in praise of people who correct other people's spelling mistakes! :)

this is a post about choosing between a $300 knife and a $400 knife. i guess i just don't understand why you would join the discussion and then say something to the effect of "spending 300-400 on a knife is ridiculous". maybe you could explain that. maybe i'm just misunderstanding your statement.

if you could post the comparison picture (or email it to me and i'll post it) then i'm sure that would be helpful (to me especailly and anyone still tuning in to this post).

i personally don't think you have to own alot of knives to know what you like but i don't like to make a practice of bashing people with richer preferences.

thanks to grant for a cool side-by-side picture of the WSK and the Tops Tracker.

just an update...i picked up a TOPS Tracker for a great price and i'm gonna start there but if its a good fit i'm sure there is a Beck in my future :)

I took that picture. The Beck is a much better knife and the xtra cost is well worth it..Once you use the Beck after using the TOPS you will see there is no comparison.

Jared, I got your email..I need to stop in. I have been slacking..

well....thanks for taking the picture. i'm sure the Beck is great. i'm sure the TOPS will be a great addition to my collection (and my backpacking rig). i'm glad my knife isn't more expensive than my tent. we'll see if i'm still left wondering about the beck when after i've used the TOPS. if i don't need better than i'd rather put the money towards something else. just a personal descision.

Hey Matt, good to hear from you. I got Dave Beck working on another knife for me :)

I also have about 4 other knife designs on standby for some other makers to look at, the only propblem being funding, or lack thereof.

P.S. Did you see the Crain "Die Hard" prototype on ebay? Also check out Primo Knives, he has 4 Crain prototypes for sale including the MUST Kit Proto, Skinning Kit proto, and the Hunter proto.

MapleLeaf,

You have to ask to both ways of carry. Mine is for horiz/vert....

he sews in 2ndary straps for scout carry. They look cool too....

Nice sheath, yorgos238. Does it carry vertically as well as horizontally?

Yes. David Beck's standard sheath is for vertical use only - hanging down your leg from your belt. However, I requested a scout-style sheath from David, and he accomodated my request in the way you see it in the photos. The end result is that I can carry the sheath both ways.

I can't recommend David Beck's craftmanship enough. Both knife and sheath (and everything about them!) is truly a piece of art. I would suggest that you get on that waiting list as soon as possible! ;)

Right. I am trying to place an order. I sent Dave an email about a week ago, but no response. Also filled out form on his site yesterday and clicked send. No response there either as yet! Fingers are crossed. Anything else I should ask him about - ensure I get - in terms of extras, add-ons etc?

Thanks for your help.

I had heard he was very ill and not taking orders for a while now. Could be old info though, I hope he is okay.

Roger Linger has made a few in the Tracker style. Do a search and you should be able to find pics.
