David Beck W.S.K. vs. TOPs "TRACKER" round #1

i don't have one, just asking because i plan on getting one sometime in the future, maybe in the spring or summer.

I ordered a WSK with the companion back in late August and I was doing fine waiting there for a while, but now I find myself checking my email on an absurdly regular basis with the hope Mr. Beck has emailed me my ship date. I simply can't wait to take this knife out the next time I go camping.

It would be really interesting if someone could do some sort of test with WSK knife. How it would fare against other blade(s) at 1/4 thick & 9" category, regardless of price. The weight of both knives would have to be relatively close to have somewhat fair competition. Becker bk9 would hit the spot i guess. No custom vs custom bs.

Dave suggests rounding the side of a sharpening stone to help you sharpen the hook section of the blade.

I use a Crock Stick ceramic sharpening system and it works pretty good.

The sawteeth will probably never need sharpening, but if they do, he recommends a triangular ceramic stick or file.

You'll get a packet of all this information with your knife.

Hope this helps.

I've been skeptical in the past about custom blades, and have never owned one until now. Truthfully, I fell in love with this knive when I saw it on "The Hunted", and bought the T.O.P.'S version. I then found this forum, and subsequently this thread. I decided to buy one of Mr. Beck's WSKs/companion combo and I will never regret it. The way this knife feels in your hand is undescribeable. The craftsmanship, effort, and passion that went into this blade is obvious. The finish is absolutely amazing, and despite the appearance, the way the handle contours to your hand results in a very firm grip. I've been collecting knives since I was roughly 12 years old.. granted I'm only 23, but this is BY FAR my favorite knife. Whether you're a collector or someone who camps/hunts or all three, you WILL NOT regret the purchase of this knife. I took it with me the last time I went hunting and it dressed a deer like a charm. The hook works very well at opening up the deer. I did, however, use the companion to cut around the anus, but if you needed to do it with the WSK, you could. I've not built any traps with it yet, but from what I've read from other people on this forum it is excellent for doing just that. I just can't begin to tell you all how much I love this knife. From my experience so far, everything Vermonster said is true, this knife is in every single shape, form, and fashion superior to the T.O.P.'s version. For any of you who've been reading this thread toying with the idea of buying one of these knives, or the WSK/companion combo, I would highly reccommend it. Thanks Dave, for pouring your heart and soul out into these knives.

I'm glad you like your WSK so much. I was lucky enough to receive my custom Beck knife yesterday, a survival knife which I designed. Again, Dave amazed me with his skill and craftsmanship. To see something that I designed built to such a high standard was incredible.

Enjoy your WSK, it will serve you well.

I was hoping you would be willing to post a pic of the knife you had David forge for you ? I'm anxious to see it.

There is a pic of his new knife on the Tactics & Training > Wilderness & Survival Skills Forum. Check it out.

Hey guys,
Scott Hendryx made the kydex sheath for my WSK. He has small ads in "Tactical Knives" magazine. There's a picture of my new Beck on the Wilderness & Survival forum. The knife was not forged, it's a stock removal piece.

What kind of bees wax did you use on your becks sheath?
I looked everywhere for some to put on my own sheath this weekend. All I found was HARD beeswax. Did you mely your wax first, before coating the leather?

I can email you pictures of my new 01 steel survival blade I made.

Not too bad eighter!!!

got my #588. Scout carry sheath with snap pocket!

I love it....built VERY well.

I just thought I would dig this post up again since it's been over a year since it was started and the movie came out. Still enjoying my Tracker/WSK. How about Place Knives and Vermonster? Anyone else pick up any Dave Beck knives? I hear he was having some surgery done and have not heard how he is doing. He may or may not continue to make knives depending on the out come. I wish all the best to Dave and family, and hope to see some more of his great work out there.

Hey, how's it going? My WSK and my custom Beck survival knife are going strong. Easily still my 2 favorite knives.

Dave said his surgery went well, he still has some pain in his neck which makes standing at the grinder for long periods of time difficult. He's in good spirits and working on some new stuff.

Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to order another one of his fine knives. I have some more ideas kicking around.

My WSK is great. One of my favourites for sure...I need to get a companion for it sooner than later and when Dave is fully back on his feet...

Hey Place, show us some more photos of your WSK buddy! I need a fix! ;)
