I am late to this party, but it is a very impressive build and the final outcome is great.

likewise I am late .....

About 3 years ago David made for me one of his knives ...

Stunning work, and a favorite camp knife. I have used it quite it bit to chop limbs.

Cheers,

Carl

Beautiful knife and it was a pleasure reading through the process.

If you don't mind me asking, how fine of grit did you sand your handle down to before applying the tru-oil mix? I love the way that handle looks and I'm going to use about the same method for some scales I am making.

spectacular work! You are a gifted knifemaker!

Thank you David  :)

You should be receiving yours any day now ;) I'm anxious to get feedback on how well she works out for ya

Hi Carl :) Wow, that's a blast from the past !

I'm really happy to hear you've been keeping that one busy in the bush - that's exactly what I make them for

Hi Doc :) Thanks for your post.

In regards to your question about how fine a grit paper I used prior to applying the Tru-Oil finish. If I remember correctly it was 800 or 1000 grit finish. For all of my handle materials, wood, ivory, etc., I've been using these Klingspor Premium AO Stearate Sheets. I can't stress enough what a noticeable difference it makes when finishing.
FWIW, I believe notes on my finishing of the handle for this knife start on pg. 15 or 16 of this thread.

I recently came across this info here and noticed that, for some reason, knifemakers tend to finish their handles to a higher grit than most gun stock makers/finishers   Good article BTW

Thanks again for your post Dr. Maclean ;)

Interesting article on gun stock finishes David - thanks.

This thread certainly has legs. :)

The handle finish on this piece is really something to see in person. The Koa looks alive.
