I almost fully agree with the OP......but that net to me shit is a joke and a PITA!
Just had a deal on a $50 knife......net to me. Only did this because my son really wanted the knife.
I am NOT a PP professional so I added 3% and sent the seller $51.50. What do I know?? He sent a bunch of e mails looking for $0.29 more.
Net to me should not be used in a sales thread.....period. State the total price you'd like to get. Simple.

You should have sent it. Goods. It would cost him more to receive it than the $.29. :D

No Wolf!!! He wanted it F&F or net to him!! I couldn't friggin believe it! I actually PMd Rev about it!! He, as usual, gave me excellent advice!!

So simple. How much for the knife "plus" how much for shipping "plus" how much for handling "plus" how much for rainy weather "equals" THE ASKING PRICE TO YOUR DOOR.

Nobody knows what add-on the seller's got in mind for "NET". I've seen people ask anything from 3% to 4% or more.

I wouldn't care if it's one cent or one thousand dollars. if a person agrees to a price, that price needs to be paid in full, no exceptions. if you don't understand what "net to me" means, ask the person who posted the item for sale for clarification. communication and integrity is key here.

I agree about the net prices in sales threads for the record, I'm just making a point here. it's not about the amount of money owed, it's the fact that an amount of money was owed and not paid as per the verbal and "written" agreement.

This will be even funnier if the Amazon "deal" turns out to be a fake as more and more are now days

I can't take anyone seriously who starts a post "ok ok hold up check it out" and ends it with "you're a lame homeboy." I normally don't tell people how to spend their money, but If you have to wait to pay someone less than $2, maybe you shouldn't be buying a knife.

Wouldn't it be so much easier to put the total price wanted?? Instead of trying to keep your asking price lower in the ad??
If my son didn't really want the knife I wouldn't have wasted my time and passed.
F&F or net to me are immediate turn offs.

very true, and I never really put a whole lot of thought into it aside from having to do the math when it was time to PayPal the funds (which is always annoying, for sure)

it seems like a lot of people do the "net to me," I can say I'm guilty of it as well, because I thought it was a fairly common practice here on BF. I've never really liked it though, and agree that you should include any shipping and fees associated in your asking price.

let's start a movement :P

I think the OP is lame for starting this thread. Guy backs out in less then a day cause he doesn't understand what "net to me" means. He found a deal while OP nickle and dimed him over Paypal fees. Buyer found better deal. If OP had been clearer on fee's he wouldn't have this problem. I like how OP mentions he doesn't put "net to me" in his adds anymore. No harm done, annoyed OP but not seeing it as a reason to bash anyone.

Returned the 190 in full...this keeping 9 stuff is a flat out lie. Merz later replied keep the 3 bucks and change for the trouble...which oddly enough ended up being less than 3 once all the returns happened. This was more than fair given I pissed away a 3 dollar padded envelope and tape on the knife pack-up. I asked twice for the 2 bucks...obviously it was a principle matter and I didn't like getting stiffed for a second time. I don't think I over stepped my bounds here.

Happy to share my email history and Paypal print screen if anyone really cares haha.

From the NET to me stuff....agreed. I have been posting full prices for the past year....and haven't used the NET feature for some time. Was trying to save a little on taking a bath on the price I originally paid for the Brous. Wont be using NET anymore....great insight from everyone and this experience.

I outlined verbatim what NET meant in two emails BTW. Clearly outlining the exact price. I did so respectfully in an easy to read format.

Merz...I didn't insult you here....so please don't throw out comments like you did. This forum is full of good fellas who enjoy this hobby. What we DON'T need is fellas like yourself that dont follow the rules and cause a headache for others. From the very start...this transaction was obnoxious. I only outlined the facts so other upstanding members dont have to go through what I did. This event didn't ruin my day by any means....but I'd be a liar if I said it wasn't annoying as hell.

If anything...use this as a lesson. Join the forum and have some fun. But treat sellers with respect and you will be treated the same. You can most def. save face here if you choose guy. Up to you. But let it be known...never did I once shed a bad word about you or give you a hassle with the return.

The way I see it, these are all trade deals. If I go to a swap meet, garage sale, etc. and someone has something marked $150 I expect to pay $150. It should be the same here.

PayPal agreement says you have to use G&S. So use G&S and either figure out the total cost to the buyer in advance or just plan on eating the fees.

Merz is the one in the wrong here in my opinion, because it was listed as a NET price, but it could've been handled better on both sides.

*Finally agreed to send pmt even though he already claimed it. Proceeded to tell me he would be sending over $185 because his girlfriend needed money and he is trying to avoid a fight.
*I reiterate/explain my asking price of $190NET (I have steered away from the NET crap, but this is how I listed this one to soften the blow).
*Proceeds to stiff me, I get $184
*Follow up with him and he agrees to send me another $6 in which he sends $4
*I follow up again and he responds that he will send the final payment later when he has the money.

Would you mind clarifying?

Did he initially send you $190 and you only received $184 because of the fees? Or did he actually just send you $184 total?

190, less fees. Then sent over 3 and change that didnt cover the delta. All done after two emails explaining NET price. Done after saying NO to an offer of $185 because of girlfriend issues.

Thanks!

The bold makes a big difference in my book.

If what you meant by NET was not explained to the buyer, it could be misconstrued on how much money to send as some folks that put a NET price don't even know what they are saying. (NET Shipped )

But you did.

As another has said, respectfully, if you are a a few dollars short of the funds for a knife purchase, maybe your priorities should shift away from nearly $200 knives.

For some reason, I feel like I just read a text message from a a 14 year old....sent from under the desk (so teacher won't confiscate the cell phone)......in remedial English class where the sender is, predictably, failing.

Added another added to the ignore list.
