Deals for 10/11--Pix Blems and Awesome buys

I think the M43 was sharked about last Wednesday. Amko went for it and it was long gone.

Should be another coming along, seems to be a few showing up lately.

I don't have one either.

Still have to decide between a AK, CAK, or ....farm knife? :D

Depends on how much heavy chopping you expect to do. The farm knife has a much slimmer edge profile than the AK or CAK. It can chop, of course, but it's more of a multi-purpose tool. The wide blade will stand up to heavy chopping, but you'll probably get a lot more edge-rolling than with an AK or CAK. The farm knife might be more handy around the house and in the kitchen.

I am sooooo lucky. The 16" 29oz CAK from this DOTD just arrived moments ago. 2 days travel time.
It's perfect in true Kumar fashion. In the scary sharp category, well done and will make a perfect kindling chopper to replace the one I gave away this summer. So shiny and pretty I hate to use it but this one is going to work.
Wish the one I'd given away was this pretty but the kid won't be afraid to put his to work since it's already been there and had a little character.
Photo evidence since we all know if there's no pictures it didn't happen.

The usual strong spine shot.

Haven't even wiped the oil off yet, guess I'll go start the bonding process. I love this one.
Might even mount this one on the chair someplace. That way I'm ready to chop kindling or anything else without having to go fetch it. When the boys at work whip out their new girly man folder, I'll whip this out and watch jaws hit floor.

That’s one beautiful knife Mr Joe!!
It looks too pretty to use!
I like the response to the question someone asked Uncle Bill...
“What do Khukris look like in Nepal? Rusty!”

It's perfect, send it right over.

Out of the box yesterday, put to work this morning. I sanded the handle a bit and put some oil on it.
I love this CAK. My last one for kindling was 18" as I recall, I thought the 16" might come up short.
I was WRONG!. This is perfect. I might cut down the top of the bell on the grip a bit, sometimes it got me, sometimes it didn't. Feel pretty nice.
Note I wear a glove on my off hand both cause that's the wood handling hand and to offer a bit of protection in case my aim is off or a slip etc. I don't like to use a glove on the khuk hand, just seems unmanly to me.

Thing looks tiny in this picture, hard to believe. But she's a chopping machine I kid you not.

And my daughters horse Houston, doing what he does best. Eating.

What's the weight difference between your 18" and the new 16"? I'm still trying to decide on a good medium duty, all-around user for camping, but maybe at 6'2" 240lbs the minor weight differences aren't even worth worrying about?

For camping with your car and your size I think the 18" would work good. If you walking I'd go the 16".

I don't think the weight is that much different. I don't recall what the weight of my 18 was but this 16 feel pretty similar. And for my purpose it works just as good, maybe even better.

I think I'll probably go closer to 16, every ounce counts when you're ruckin all your gear. But to be honest I'm sure I'll eventually buy bigger as well, it's so hard not to go after each blade that Auntie Yangdu posts!

Already got an M43 so sent an EMS for:
15 inch 17 ounce BAS by Ram Kumar. Hairline crack on wood handle. $75.

Glad you got that one Amko. You will love the feel of the BAS!

Really don't know much about the BAS. Apart from the write-up on the HI website.

I can only surmise that the BAS would make a good camping knife and handy belt carry (only 17 Oz) or ideal to throw into a hiking bag. Wondering if it comes with a convex edge. HI site says: This is the same size and style khukuri (but considerably better quality) that is carried by present day Gurkhas serving in the British Army.

Can't wait!

Edit: Just crawled thru several enthusiastic posts on this forum extolling the virtues of the BAS. Seems the wooden handle on this model is few and far between, horn being the norm.

Second Edit: Is Ram Kumar among the younger of the kamis?

Almost 99.9% of the blades from HI are convex edge, except for a few, I only know of one that isn't, and that is the special HI hatchet for auntie from Kumar, which is one sided.

I love my BAS, it is very multifunctional, it can be used as a chopper, slicer, and weapon, as needed.
