Dear Case Knives...

Bring back the 6249 Copperhead but with an as ground finish and a small wharncliffe secondary like on the Bose Eureka Jack collaboration. Also offer a single blade version 6149.

I second or propose the ideas for bringing back/offering:
- a "ratcliffe"...I much prefer a single spring though.
- the 6380 big whittler
- the 92 pattern, 2 and 3 blade
- the 06247 pen- small wharncliffe or caplifter instead of the pen blade perhaps
- swapping a caplifter in place of the spey blade in any stockman
- a lower profile wharncliffe blade in place of the sheepsfoot blade on any stockman, especially the 75 pattern
- as ground blades all around
- more full size copperlock offerings with handle materials/colors and shields that won't cause embarrassment if your friends see it.

I had the exact same idea ... I modded the pen blade on a 06247 Pen into a sheepsfoot - a little small, but it's the best I could do with the size of the pen blade & much prefer it ----->

I'm very surprised at all the CV requests ... I can get SS steel plenty sharp with the diamond Lansky stones - I'm just curious what's the aversion to Case's SS ? Maybe people really like the patina affect that comes with CV ? Does CV really hold (that much of) a better edge than SS ? In my experience, it really doesn't seem to . Inquiring minds would really like to understand ... thx guys

No it doesn’t, it’s a little more tricky to clean the edge of the burr on diamond stones but with Arkansas is pretty good in my experience, but edge retention is similar
Here is a more scientific approach

I think is mostly for the looks, though

That's a very interesting video. The Cv and Tru-Sharp performed in a very similar fashion. I think that what the tester might not have understood is that Case grinds their knives very thin. Probably much thinner behind the edge than most knives he tests. This allows for the use of a less exotic steel, but with similar performance benefits. As an added side benefit, the combination of a thinner grind and softer simpler steel make for a blade that's very easy to sharpen. Other knife companies just don't seem to understand this, especially non-traditional knife companies.

I'd have been very interested to learn what the difference was, between the two knives, in how thinly they were ground. I believe that I have medium stockmans from the late 1990's in both steels. I may have to do some measuring tonight, and see if Case uses a different approach to each steel.

Personally, I don't notice much difference between Cv and Tru-Sharp. The CV may be a bit less toothy in the edge, and be a bit nicer for wood whittling. The Tru-Sharp may take a little more work to remove the burr when using older softer stones. But all in all, they seem to perform almost identically for general utility work, when sharpening on synthetic stones.

Dear Case,
Please go about the business of staying in business during a time when we are losing our traditional makers like leaves in the fall. You are not going to make the best knife, and you are not going to make the cheapest knife; so just make your knife. (oh, and more Gunboat patterns)
Cordially,
Case collector and peddler

Lets keep this thread going ... maybe someone at Case will actually see it

Most everybody that likes (modern) Case knives, seems to like Corelon sides (fact that you NEVER see a deal on a corelon sided knife on eBay is proof - many are on the hunt for them). How about introducing some corelon in the 32 medium stockman frame ?

I did send their Customer Service department a link to the thread. Haven't heard anything back and don't know that I ever will but I did send it in hopes they'd have a look. :)

From your lips to God's ears.

I'm going to go waaaay out on the "probably never gonna happen" limb, but so what?

Dear Case, please make the 92 stockman with either pen or punch 3rd blade in BG42 or 154CM stainless steel.

Funny, I've thought about this topic before ... if I owned a relatively specific small market manufacturing business, and there were only a couple online discussion boards with very enthusiastic patrons that discuss my products, I would darn sure have a couple people tasked with monitoring the discussions on my products. It's just basic market research and product trending. I think it's naive to think that Case and GEC don't have people that monitor these boards (lets just hope they utilize people that are equally as enthusiastic as we are with the background knowledge of their products, not just computer savvy interns or others that don't understand the finer points of traditional slipjoints). We all know that there is no way for the participants (us) to ever know they actually do so - we can only hope they observe & take a specific thread like this to heart and listen to what their dedicated patrons think about their products with ideas on how they could improve them (ahem, how about a wharncliffe equipped RATCLIFFE as an option to the best selling standard muskrat - you know it would be welcomed and sell in today's wharncliffe crazy knife world - here's a members ratcliffe I recently made up ...).
