Dear Case Knives...

Oooo, I really like that. Nice work. Was it difficult to drill? How did you know where to place the hole so as to not damage the spring?
Thanks, I'm glad I drilled it and am happy with the results.
I used a solid carbide bit and a drill press. I cleaned up the hole with a cone shaped bit in a dremel afterwards, gave it a little chamfer. As far as placement, I just looked for a place out of the way, away from the pin holding things together on that end.
Using a carbide but was key. It drilled pretty easy.

I agree regarding "as ground" blades. More wood handles would be nice also. Other than that I'm very well pleased with the Case knives I've bought recently. One issue with a Mini-Copperlock, where the tip of the blade was a bit proud sticking out above the handle. SMKW took care of it though. Carry on!

For what it's worth, I did finally get a response on 6/6.

Here it is:

Good Morning Erik,

Thank you for your e-mail and for taking the time to contact us with your idea. We apologize in the delay of responding to you.

We are always in the process of developing new products. Perhaps, this is something that is already in process and may be available at some point in the future. We will pass your comments on to our product team.

Thank you for your interest in Case products.

Kind regards,

So, canned or not, at least an acknowledgement of receiving the feedback.

I worked up this "trappcliffe" on a members mini-trapper (6207) ... had to use the clip blade for the wharncliffe mod due to the favorable nail nick position. I like the concept - maybe Case could consider something similar but with a spear in lieu of the spey in that frame - would be more of a jack than a trapper though (I think I prefer this more traditional "mini wharncliffe" to the elongated wharnie they use in the 6207w) ...

You sure do some nice work on those Wharnie mods, John. That looks like it came out of the factory that way!

Thanks ! This mod sets up pretty easy ... just wish there was another blade option as the primary other than a spey, hence I hope somebody at Case keeps an eye on these boards

The only way to get Cases ear is to join the CCC.. Then again..
John

The 087 pattern comes in 2 offerings (same blades on each ... clip and pen), but one is a jack and the other is opposite ended. I really like the opposite ended version, as it's alot slimmer. VERY FEW offerings were made in this configuration ... most common are the jigged delrin and yellow - sure would love to see more options of this --->

I also would like to see a full size trapper with a cap lifter or a stockman with a cap lifter instead of the spay blade

11031SH maybe with a CV "As Ground"/Brushed or "Heat Treated" un-polished blade finish, and a lambsfoot primary and coping blade secondary, brushed bolster, and wood covers? (CV back spring(s), too please.)
(oh, and at or under the Sodbuster JR. price point.)

Funny, I've thought about this topic before ... if I owned a relatively specific small market manufacturing business, and there were only a couple online discussion boards with very enthusiastic patrons that discuss my products, I would darn sure have a couple people tasked with monitoring the discussions on my products. It's just basic market research and product trending. I think it's naive to think that Case and GEC don't have people that monitor these boards (lets just hope they utilize people that are equally as enthusiastic as we are with the background knowledge of their products, not just computer savvy interns or others that don't understand the finer points of traditional slipjoints). We all know that there is no way for the participants (us) to ever know they actually do so - we can only hope they observe & take a specific thread like this to heart and listen to what their dedicated patrons think about their products with ideas on how they could improve them (ahem, how about a wharncliffe equipped RATCLIFFE as an option to the best selling standard muskrat - you know it would be welcomed and sell in today's wharncliffe crazy knife world - here's a members ratcliffe I recently made up ...).

just a bump to an old thread in the hopes that somebody at Case Cutlery monitors this board & plants the ratcliffe seed ...
