Dear Santa: I promise I'll be "good" next year, so can I get one of these, please?

I would simply settle for the 15 year. I've only managed to find 10 and 12 locally so far.
I passed on the 10 Year stuff, but stocked up on the 12 Year, and have ten bottles in the rack. I managed to find the 15 Year stuff at my local BevMo!, and snagged two bottles. I also found the 20 Year stuff, and have two in the rack as well.

Up until discovering ORVW bourbon, I was quite content with Wild Turkey 101. I am working on a 1.75 liter bottle of it at the moment, and it doesn't come close to ORVW bourbon.

Sort of off topic to this "off topic," but is anyone here a fan of Amarula?

I keep around a couple of bottles of the 20 since it's Stitzel Weller whiskey, but the 15yr is my favorite by a wide margin and the 12 is right behind it and I keep a bunch on hand.

I have found a 12 or 15 and its the only one there, but its sat for two weeks.

I have been tempted though.

Bulleit for $23-25 is hard to beat, and it has a real cowboy old school type of bottle. I love a half gallon of Wild Turkey 101 for adding to the glass after its on...

I have enjoyed a couple of Elijah Craig 18s and its the only one that reminded me of a good Scotch so far for much less:thumbup:

$350 for a bottle, that stuff better do the cooking, cleaning, and "love me long time."

Funny, a bottle could cost you your marriage, your job, and your knife money in one fell swoop. (as in drink enough that "yes honey, I said that dress makes your butt look massive................... To boss: hell no, I ain't coming into work today, I am drunk so suck it....................and, Where the heck did I put that $360 I had stashed to order that Bushwacker from Busse while they were only a reasonable $350 for the CG?????")

I am glad that is one habit I don't have to fund!

Just heard back from the bourbon boss man himself, Julian Van Winkle III, he is sending one over to a local store for me. You can't beat that, Old Rip Van Winkle is officially the Busse of bourbon - great customer service and one hell of a product. His signature line on his email is as follows, "We make fine Bourbon, at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always fine bourbon". Sounds like a knifemaker we all love.

I'm stopping at a promising package store in about a half hour - let's see what they have in stock....

My store had two versions of the 10 year in stock--a 90 proof and a 107. I grabbed a bottle of the 107.

So I didn't get the fancy pants stuff with the included gift box and glasses, but got something pretty good.... about to take my first sip....

WOW! That's pretty dang smooth. I'm not noticing the depth or complexity of flavors I'd get from a good scotch, but it's a lot smoother than many scotches I've tried, some costing more. I don't have much of a taste for bourbon developed yet... guess I'll just have to drink more

Ok I am sold. I am going tomorrow to get it.

So what is it?

Well, I went in looking for some of the 12, but all I saw on the shelf was the 10, and I was bummed. I figured I'd see if I could get some 15 instead, and asked one employee, then another, and a third - all of them said the 10 was all they had in stock. Finally I found a guy who looked like he actually knew what he was talking about, and asked him if they had anything else from Rip Van Winkle in the back. He said they didn't have much left, so I ended up having to settle for this:

Very fine bourbon! I have two bottles of the 20 Year variety, and they set me back about $90 per bottle.

the 107 for sure, you can always water it down to 90 or whatever but there's nothing you can do to make the 90 stronger...

;)
