Dear Santa: I promise I'll be "good" next year, so can I get one of these, please?

Started this evening with Elijah Craig 12 yr old which is gone now moving on to my current hometown distillery, Woodford Reserve. But I did grow up on the hills above Ancient Age (now Buffalo Trace) so maybe that's next. I guess I won't know until I head to the bourbon vault. You guys have an open invitation for tours of the distilleries. Any bourbon fan needs to come to the KY Bourbon Festival in September. Last year they had 20yr pappy by the glass in the tasting tents.

Oh my I want to try this stuff. I love the bourbons I've tried and who doesn't love good schwag but I can't blow any cash right now :(

Wait I could flip a piece of INFI. Is there any governing law against selling INFI to finance the purchase of a fine spirit? Hmmm......

My wife, bless her heart, bought for me today as my Christmas gift, a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 23 Year bourbon. :D

This is in addition to the decanter set that I bought as a Christmas gift to myself. :D:D

I still really want the decanter set. The bottle on the 20yr is not nearly fancy enough for what I paid  :p

I'm curious to hear just how much a difference in taste there is between the 20 and 23. Wondering whether it's worth the extra money.

A buddy of mine got a bottle of the 23 year for $50 once. Tasted nice. That was 8 years ago and I bet he still has some left.

for me, independent of the cost, the 15yr is better than them both.

if I wanted my Bourbon to be more like Scotch, I'd just drink Scotch.

the Pappy 15yr, I think, is the perfect balance of age/proof/taste in Bourbon.

I interviewed for the Grounds maintenance supervisor at Buffalo trace but didn't get the job. I think they're on the national historic registry.

Sort of off topic to this "off topic," but is anyone here a fan of Amarula?[/QUOTE]

I love Amarula! It's great straight or over ice or with a touch of Kahlua over ice.

I've finally got my ORVW stock too ( 10yr 90 proof, 10 yr 107proof, 12 yr, 15yr, 20 yr and 13yr old rye). I held off on the 23yr old because at half the price I like the 20 yr old better. I think I'm set for the Holidays!

Apparently coming by this stuff is a difficult mission. How did you stumble upon a store receiving one that was not already claimed? :)

In my area there are a few stores which truly specialize in Bourbon and not just a single shelf selection. One of which has a Bourbon selection that puts all others around here to shame.

I called around yesterday and only that one store was receiving the Decanter set though it was not for purchase. He said a regular customer came in around June when this release was published in one of the popular magazines and pre-paid $500 since the price had not been announced. That bottle is scheduled to come in next week but it is the only one their distributor allotted to their store.

It seems that finding this stuff, especially the decanter set, is a matter of being at the right place at the right time.
