Death Chat!!

I like big fires. The blade on that saw is 14 3/4 inches. I got it to replace my 18 inch Sawvivor that I bent the frame on. I am kinda hard on gear. That part of the forest is underwater some summers.

Nice area Squishware  Where are you?

That reminds me, I forgot to post my pics from my trip last weekend. Did Big Basin again with a buddy; I figured the waterfalls would be pretty good after the rain we had last week. Ban and Huy, remember where we at lunch that time I took you guys there? Check it out :)

Just sharing a few shots from my hike in Big Basin Redwoods SP today. With all the rain we've been having, I thought the waterfalls there would be flowing pretty nicely, and they were :) Wet and muddy day on the trail, good fun.

I am near Sarasota, Florida. Those pics are from Myakka River State Park. Your photo skills are so advanced compared to mine.

Cool  Never been to Florida before...one of these days I hope to visit. As for photo skills, nah, I just like to take snapshots while out and about. It's fun trying to "capture" a place. Never can truly capture the feel of course, but it's still fun to try and get what you can. I got the feel of the place from your pics, so  :)

Those are pretty big saws alright. I have one of those larger non folding Silky Saws and they do make quick work of any wood I want to cut.

Great pics, I love Big Basin! Yeah I remember that spot, glad we got some decent rain. Let's plan another trip back soon.

Wow that is beautiful. I cannot believe I've never been up there. What trail is that, and how long is the hike?

Hey Carl. That's Big Basin Redwoods State Park. It's the Berry Creek Falls loop. I take the Sunset Trail out to Berry Creek Falls Trail and then come back on Skyline-to-the-Sea. The hike's about 11 or 12 miles, with about 2k' of elevation gain.

Maybe we should set up another get together hike for that trail, sometime in early May, before it dries up....

I've been meaning to get down to Ban's place for one of the get togethers, but my son keeps me pretty busy with comp soccer, and baseball. Not sure my legs/lungs could handle 12 miles. ;) Actually the 2k elevation gain is probably worse. Only time I go hiking is up in the sierras at 7000 ft. and the worst I do is a 500' elevation climb in 1.5 miles carrying fishing gear and day pack.

Taking into account the elevation 7K+ and the slope, How would that compare?

Hmmm... My bet is that you'd be ok. We can just take it easy. The climbing is spread throughout the hike so there's nothing particularly steep. The steepest section is about 500' gain in just under a mile. Furthermore, we can always cut the hike shorter on another loop halfway on the outbound leg.

Probably the best thing to do would be to do a shorter or easier hike elsewhere...maybe Castle Rock for nice lil 5 miler. Work up to other ones

Yeah, my buddy who goes to the gym all the time and is pretty ripped says the same thing.

I've been wanting to check out that newer park that's in that area, towards the coast: The Forest of the Nisene Marks. J, we should hike together more often so we can train for Whitney (if you get a permit and I'm able to make it out too).

May 12 or 13. Either day work for everyone?

I'm going to check in with my GF to see if we have anything planned, but I'm pretty sure I'm free.

Either day is good for me, so whatever works for you guys. If that weekend doesn't work, I can probably do the weekend before as well.

Sounds good, i'll let you know!

Co-worker brought in some kale chips which I liked, so I made some when I got home.

Still waiting on a BT Santoku ;) but I got to use my favorite knife again so no excuses.

For sectioning off the leaves, I really like holding it with my index finger and thumb for more control.

Seasoned them with a bit of EVOO and sea salt, popped them into the oven to bake. Went to my room and saw the Hulk playing with my BT Pikal.

I burnt a bunch of them, but still good.

Nice kale! I've never seen one with such a deep purple hue before  Kale chips are pretty good...especially if you dust em with some cheese.

Great knife, of course! I love the black liners on your Mini-Bowie. I really need a normal full length one.... I should do a review of mine, now that I've used it for a little while.

So I just found out that Sunday the 13th is better for me, rather than the 12th.
